Looking for an adapter ring for a 2.0 litre. Will borrow, rent or buy your used one. Is there any alternative to using these rings?

Is there any alternative to using these rings?

1) the proper P201 tool, which is lots more.
2) broken case flanges, which we refer to as "the bad method."
3) do the work on a sturdy table. most of us have BTDT, so it's possible, but not preferred.

the stand adapter ring -is- the low-cost alternative.

you could buy one, then resell it 'lightly used.' that'd probably cost you less than a week's rental at a tool house...

Yup, thats what I use.. cheaper than dirt...free from most sources wink.gif

I just drilled two spots and use the existing other two holes. Bolted it to the flat part of a v8 stand.

A quick grind to clear the clutch and its done.

Perfect lip all around.

Would you have a picture showing what you did?

"where'd you get yours from?"

The dump . . . really. It was in the metals pile at our little town dump.

If you can't find one locally, you can post a "wanted" on TheSamba, or ShopTalkForums and you should get an answer pretty quickly. They work well on engine stands because of the flat area where the trans mounts. They're also cool, because, once the engine's built, they double as a starter ring.

Luck,

You can use a V-8 stand just cut some notches.
