I bought another '73 2.0 optioned car. It has a really solid tub and is complete. It does run, all I need to do to drive it is install a new master cylinder. Next week the tank gets pulled, MC goes in, five lug gets installed and the madness starts all over again. I really don't need two cars, but sadly, I'm an addict.

Well, I pulled the pin yesterday. I told my "mechanic" that I was tired of his games, and the shit hit the fan. My wheels were supposed to be done before Route 66 Flagstaff in the middle of April. My/6 was supposed to be in and running by the end of July. He has my 2.0 /4 motor and my transmission. He was working on my other '73 2.0 car to get it roadworthy. Also, a lot of other stuff that he ended up with.
I get a 911 motor back in a million parts, wheels not done, a questionable "driving" 914, and supposedly all of my parts and pieces back.
Then comes the cash I gave him. Really, REALLY watch out for nefarious people who you may think are friends who end up being assholes.
I wasted three months and lots of money in this endeavor with this idiot. As soon as I called him on his lies, he completely turned on me. Almost Jekyll & Hyde. I've been nothing but fair and nice to the guy, it makes me want to lose faith in the human race to tell you the truth.
Really bummed and disappointed.

Sorry to hear about this Lawrence,
I Know things will get better for you, People that do this sort of thing are the lowest life form in my eyes. Its my opinion we are much more likely to encounter this kind of trash because of the type of cars we drive/have.
These Punks take advantage of and hide under the guise that they are special because they choose to work on Vintage automobiles and get to live by a different set of rules than the majority of standup mechanics.
I hope this guy gets everything he's got coming to him.

1, You should have told him off. Besides, it feels good to unload on someone when they deserve it.
2, You prepaid AND you did business with a friend? Your in business for yourself, right? How many times have you warned others not to do what you just did? If you didn't know before you do now. Sorry for your loss on that one, Lawrence.

Kent, he isn't a longtime friend, he became a friend as we got into the various Porsche projects and builds. I didn't know that things could go this bad with someone who I thought I knew better. That is my fault.
Steve, I'm doing that little by little. Actually, the car isn't that bad, I just need to invest some time and effort into it. This whole debacle almost made me want to sell all of my stuff and say "fuch it."

Now I'm getting piles of parts back. He shows up, backs up the truck, and starts unloading on my driveway.
I'm the asshole, and he shows no contriteness whatsoever. I can't do much until I get my /6 parts back in toto.
What a fuched up situation, he brought back my deep sixes, and I know they never really went to the polisher. I told him I know they never left his shop. What he did was match the two rough ones I had to the two polished ones and said he paid the polisher $300 to do them. What a bullshitter, I KNOW that HE did the two wheels in his shop.

Do you have any documentation? Receipts, bills, estimates, etc.? If so, take him to court. If you go to small claims court, you don't even need a lawyer (but might not hurt to at least consult one). Probably ought to wait until he drops off the last of your parts, though.

Maybe he's just shy. Did you offer to show him your contriteness, first?

Seriously Lar, Google, Yelp, BBB, etc is your best recourse. Hits them in the pocket book plus it helps others steer clear of "the headache". If this were the eighties I'd think your mechanic was playing in the snow.

So many of these stories end with lots of parts (sometimes whole cars) gone missing, impounded, or stuck in frozen asset court hell. Get your stuff back (be glad you got it all) and move on, chalk the $$ up to lesson learned, besides values are going up. Anger and energy toward this guy is going to ruin your passion for the car and possibly lead to him to quit taking your calls and your remaining parts disappearing.
Get your stuff and post a warning here to keep another from making a mistake with him. Focus your energy on your car!

As for the suggestion to jump in and take the idiot to small claims court now, as mentioned above, you might not get all your parts back.
Post your comments on yelp and any car forum so to alert his future potential customers. Years ago, I had a local garden shop come by to give me a quote to install new lawn on the front and back of my house. This Crook came and measued the lawns, I gave him $500 cash ,half of the project. Being so trust worthy, I never even ask for a receipt.
Fast forward, after digging up the lawn, this F...ing Crook calls my cell to explain that he made a mistake and is not willing to lose $ on the job. I could pay him another $1500 to complete the job or he will simply leave the sod for me to complete the job...
Needless to say. I paid and got a Real World education on how crooked people can be....oh yes I drive by his garden shop every day and have thought how I can resolve this...

I fiddled with hooking up the fog lights yesterday, no luck, wiring seems to be correct. I got in the car today, and it wouldn't start. I push started it down the hill and it started right up, but now no tach, gas gauge, and directionals. That's random.
I un-hooked the fogs and left them the way they were before. I'm about ready to sell EVERYTHING and just get out of this hobby altogether. I'm so frustrated, my fucking crooked mechanic STILL hasn't come clean with my money and engine.
