Engine is frozen ... sad.gif , but the body is straight, and the rust is minimal biggrin.gif .

An early car with a late car engine? (note the lack of rubber bumpers, yet late exhaust)

I have been around 914s along time but have never seen that item circled in yellow...what is it? Looks to be part of the EGR system?

Kudos to you on saving this one, its commendable.

It's 1974, the trans-axel is from a 75. haven't looked for the engine #yet.
The part that looks like a take-out-box av-943.gif think it might be part of an air-injection system, it was not connected to anything. smash.gif looks like something to put in the stromberg.gif can.

The engines with EGR (like yours), should have a big L-shaped tube from the muffler to the EGR valve, bolting to both sides of the rear firewall, to scavenge exhaust to feed the EGR valve.

Yours has this 'take out' box in the circuit...seems to me I have seen a similar but much smaller arrangement on other german cars. Maybe its some kind of sound attenuation device or soot collector. Those EGR valves always pug-up with crud.

Is it an L-shaped tube like this one?
