Hello all,

I have converted the hubs of my 1973 914/4 to 5 lug in order to install a set of 7x15 cookie cutters wearing 195s.

I put them on but i get LOADS of rubbing in the rear.
I love the 7x15 stance and dont want to go narrower rims
What tyre sizes is possible to fit inside the standard fenders ?

Wierd, I have 195/55's on 7" Cookies and I have no rubbing in the rear...

I went to some effort to find some 6" cookies. They fit a stock 914 - 99%. 7" is a stretch for our cars. More like 50/50. And might still need some work on the rear fenders and careful tire choice.

Are your 195's 55's, 60's or 65's

And to follow up with mepstein's comment regarding a careful tire choice, keep in mind that tire width measurements are not precise, therefore if you were to sample various 195 series tires, you would find differences in widths, some maybe be closer to to 205s than 195s, and some maybe be closer to 185s than 195s. Many manufacturers publish their actual width measurements.

I agree with all of the above comments.
Are they rubbing on the inside or outside? If on the inside the rear camber may be off and can be corrected with alignmant shims. I had 205/50 on steel rims an one tire rubbed on the inside. The cars even vary side to side on the clearance.

You realistically will need 6 inch wheels. Or flares.

I run 15X7 Cookies on my '74 /6 conversion with 195/65 tires. Driver's side is really close to lip but no rubbing.

The tire's 'shoulder' design will make a difference. Find a more rounded item rather than a squared design for a possible solution.

Your problem is rim offset, not tires. 23mm offset is not enough for the rear.

Options:

Pull or tweak rear fenders.

Modify the rear trailing arms, which would involve cutting and welding to move the wheel inboard.

Correct offset wheels.

Not Honda or Audi where you can stretch and add camber just to run wide wheels with tiny stretched tires.
