Looks like a nice restoration with some great details.......for sale @ $125K. Not cheap.

Nice one, even has the de acceleration vacuum hooked up.

Missing a screw on the Headlight surround, and shouldn't have a headliner...

Mine is #2604 and has a headliner, so are you saying the early ones should not have a headliner? This one is #300.

Very nice restoration! They got a lot of the detail stuff right with this car. My only real quibble is with the door panels. Should be the plain vinyl, not the later type they installed.

i have #142 no headliner on my car plus it has the wrong fabric on the doors

Very nice car. I have 311 which is still in boxes. Mine has the perlon carpets and simple vinyl door panels and full vinyl seats. The floor pan should not be black. It should be body color overspray.

One question, should all of the various fittings and parts be gold sink plated? I need to know for my car.

thats what color my car is supposed to be.. smile.gif Mr.Bernie Built the 2.4 in my car,and ive pushed that car outta my one more then once, and even traded some of the parts you see on it towards my motor bill....the man knows what hes doing,and bought his first 6 strait outta high school and still owns it today...wait tell ya see the orange car if pictures ever surface....HOOOOLLY CHIIIT...that ones not so stock hahaha

Beautiful car. I knew Bernie was restoring a 6. Nice work. There are a few flaws that I see when looking at the photos. All minor.

The headlight bezels look silver in color. At least, they are not the correct color white.
It has a late style outside drivers mirror
The rear trunk carpet has a brass grommet hole for tire mount. Early cars did not have this grommet.
The rubber buffer/stop is missing on engine lid
The DOT door jamb sticker is a reproduction (not much can be done about this)
It looks like a front license plate mount was used on the rear bumper
The drivers carpet does not have the rubber trim where the pedals come through
The 3 nylon/plastic trim cups are missing in the rear trunk floor

Great observation folks. Here's what I picked up.
Wrong rear valance- it's not a -6 port hole one and its missing that black little rubber band on the jack in the trunk.
Updated fuel lines...I guess its a good thing.

Yes we are Kevin. But that's not bad if done in a constructive manner. I don't know if Bernie is a World member. I think he is. I traded an early dash for a late dash some years ago with him. I think we connected on this site. Maybe he's watching this thread?

You are absolutely correct.
When I see these posting, two things come to mind:
Some post to exhibit their vast 914 knowledge, others inquire so they can solicit the brain trust and to utilize the tread to negotiate a lower price point.
This -6 is a great resto.

Oh, the last group of individuals, just post because they simply have too much time.

I agree....these are minor items that could easily be fixed.....but, IMO the car is priced right. In todays market you couldn't build a car like this for $125K....unless you did the work yourself.

The add indicates the original, restored rear valance and OEM "warts" come with the car.

Jack is missing the little rubber tie strap.

I was also wondering if the under body should be black from the factory?

I think they were body colored and dealers sprayed the black tar when delivered? Usually done very sloppy.

Great photo documentation on this car !

I was referring to the text that states the interior lamp is a 914 6 only item.
It is the correct lamp for all 914s

While I have nothing better to do here goes;
Heater hoses from valves to body should be orange
Heater valves should be grey
Area around rubber snubbers for engine lid should be painted black
Odd looking tether for footrest
Repro owners manual
Not too sure about those 10,000 volt screwdrivers, repros ?
Ground strap at battery too long
Rubber O ring on top of jack ? the piece of Perlon under the tip of the jack arm is
a nice original detail

I humbly suggest that the 'nit pickers' input will enable all of us to know more
about our cars and raise the level of restoration to improve the breed.

Ditto - looks really nice.

I find it educational to hear what others can find wrong with really nice restorations. Even though my car is pretty "correct" at first glance, I've built a list of 40+ small things that are just not right/perfect but I honestly have no interesting in correcting because I'd rather just drive it at this point (e.g. I used zinc plated washers in some places rather than yellow cad; kill me now).

I'm also happy to see another stock restoration take the liberty to remove the side warts as I did too. I can't stand those.

Having said that, other small things that haven't been mentioned yet that aren't "correct" (I think):

- the brake line retaining clips should be black, not yellow cad

- later upgraded chain tensioners (but a really good idea and also on my car)

- not accurate reproduction stickers on the engine lid. The repros have the black outline border with rounded corners (correct), but the repro stickers themselves are square, but should also have rounded corners. But, he had very high attention to detail and tried to snip/cut rounded corners on the stickers, but they are clearly not perfectly round corners like the factory stickers. Might as well burn this POS to the ground! smile.gif

- Also I think the factory engine lid stickers were not applied with that much of a gap between the stickers.

- ride height is too low for a factory/stock restoration (IMO)

- undercoating looks nice and is well done, but I don't think is "correct" anywhere on the car. bottom should be grey. Wheel wells look like there is thick undercoating that was then painted. Should just be body color painted metal (I think).

I love it and looks like an awesome car! Ivory looks great on 914s. But given my other projects, I'd have to be a buyer at $12,500... smile.gif

Yes, I was wondering what was meant by that. I'm guessing:

1. Whoever wrote that thinks the black switch, no chrome dome lights are standard for the 4 cylinders

or more sinister ...

2. This is a subtle dig at the two 914-6's currently offered by Scottsdale Sport (for even more $$$), both of which appear to have after market dome lights.

Curious about the absence of anti roll bars. I quess I always assumed that they were "standard" on sixes. Comments??

They were optional, not standard.

Hmmmm, I was not aware (at this point in my life) that sway bars were even available as an option on Sixes. I don't believe either of my first 2 Sixes came with sway bars and my '71 certainly did not. All 3 of them had them after I owned them, or in the case of my '71, will have them.

I agree, unless there's a gross mod, most of us just are just keeping everyone
honest and making a record of what should be. It's still a great car.

It's true early cars don't have a headliner. I don't know the cutoff, but my #242
doesn't have one.

I have always seen the vacuum lines on the left carb, not the right.

Before '73 none of the 914's came with sway bars AFAIK.

Also, this car has a center console (pocket, not gauges). I only found out this
year that it was introduced mid-year. My #242 does not have it. Perhaps the
cutoff was near #300, or maybe they sourced one from a later car.

I did not know this !

My #131 six has the console, but it could have been added at some time in life...

Mine also has a Weiltmister front sway bar I am sure added when it was a dedicated race car back in the day...

I like this thread lots of valuable sixer info !

AFAIK the center 'deposit 'was in all 914 6s from the start.
Sway bars on a 6 ? oddly, 'no'
Excellent catch of the Vac lines on the (wrong) right side manifold.
Also, no cold start plumbing attached to the air filter housing or fuel line.
No cold start solenoid there either.
Still an outstanding car.

My observation... After all is said and done, could this six restoration be or set the new 'reference bar' for many of us to follow?

Take out your paper pad and pencil folks---draw a line down the middle and start writing the 'rights/wrongs'. Then do the same for your 'reference-point' which you may be using as your current 'barometer'.

I'm really curious to learn what those results are... LOL

Beautiful car that is at a level that not many will reproduce.
My car will NEVER be that nice in my lifetime..

As far as the headliner.. My car is #619 and didn't have one.
Also.. No sway bar but the mounting tabs were on the A Arms for them.
I drilled the holes in the body to put a set in.. Back in 75.

I'll have to check my door panels..
the tether for the passenger foot rest caught my attention also.
Also no center console.. just the pad for the 3rd passenger..


You can always find something incorrect with any car..
But this one seems to have done a great job on 99.5%
of the details..

Sort of unfortunate our cars are worth this much..
Was easier when they were undesirable...........

Adding to the debate..

#0826, no headliner originally, has one now since I replaced the Targa top 30+ years ago.

HAS front sway bar, looks like factory or dealer install. I know I didn't do it and I've had the car for almost 40 yrs.
