Yes, this is as good a place as any to post your request. Hopefully someone here can help. Good luck.

FWIW, I work in Reston. It is good to know to who's local.

PPI = pre purchase inspection. Since I can't see the car for myself I'd like to find a shop that has experience with 914s to evaluate it for me.

Thanks for the guidance, Rob. Maybe I'll see your 914 around.

I drive it to work everyday it's not 90 degrees and humid (which has been every day the last week or so). You can see me "terrifying" the folks on Wiehle and Sunrise Valley Drive smile.gif

Yeah, the weather's not been cooperating lately. I live near the Home Depot. I don't usually terrify the locals, but I can be seen driving my '73 911 and '65 356 around town on occasion :-)

Never heard of those three, lived in Edmonton for years.

Did you try the dealer? There is a Porsche Centre in Edmonton and they are pretty good. Also, see if Eurasia is still in business.

Glad to see some local 914 owners.

I knew there was a dealer, but typically dealers today don't know much about air-cooled models. Do you know if Porsche Centre has someone with 914 experience?

Interesting that you've not heard of the three places I mentioned. OTOH, it's not like they specialize in Porsches, much less 914s.

Following your suggestion I looked at Eurasia. They got some pretty bad reviews.

Thanks for the input.

If the mechanic called Teo still works there, he's forgotten more about air cooled than most people know. Also the Porsche center used to be called Norden Autohaus and they used to or might still sell VW, so I think your bases would be covered having it looked at there.

Nice! I'll check that out.

Thanks. I posted on the PP 914 forum, but not the CA one. I'll give it a shot.

Another place to ask is on the beyond.ca forum, it's mostly out of western Canada.

I've got to believe that if there's experience with shops in the Edmonton area that know 914s it's more than likely in the best known 914 boards.

Alternatively, if there's someone on this board who lives in the area and is willing to look at the car for me, I'd be willing to compensate them for their efforts. Anyone?

I only know of a couple of 911 in Calgary, a shop that does 911 should be able to do a PPI on a 914.
I don't know how popular the 914 was in Edmonton, that's big ass pick-up truck territory.
BC, Ontario and Quebec would be where the bulk of 914's were sold in Canada.

I'd try this one.

http://eurasia.ca/

"Eurasia Automotive has been servicing Porsche for 32 years".

They even have a picture of Mark Messier (hockey player) with his 930.

Ask them if they know what a 914 hell hole is, if they know you're likely in good hands.
rpc
The car was sold to someone else. However, just for the record, Jon Bennett at Porsche Centre Edmonton knows 914s. He was familiar with the car in question and provided a good evaluation. If I had a Porsche and lived in Edmonton I'd look Jon up.

Thanks to all for the comments.
