what's the history of this car? is it stock?

I am curious too. I didn't know anything about it until I saw the photo. It looks as if it was the prize for winnin an LA GrandPrix race.

There are a few small pics of this car on Pelican (at least the
Pelican CD), where it was at some show within the last few
years. I can't understand why they wouldn't have given him
a 'can am' edition rather than a plain one. The LE was
originally going to be called the can am edition, if I recall.

Funny you mention that...

The 914 Limited Edition cars were not produced until Feb-March of 1974 and have VINS in the 15,000 range. The VIN of this car is much earlier than this so is suspect that the event that he won the award of this car was pre-Limited Edition.
