I really like the one this guy sells.

I found that many new or NOS regulators did not produce adequate voltage - they would charge at about 12.7 or so. Not enough to counter the battery and build up a charge. Once this one went in I have had no more problems.

IIRC I bought one similar to this from ebay. It's seen four years of heavy driving with no problems:

That looks interesting Bob, before I would spring for one, I'd like to check my alternator output...

Uh, how's that done again?

TIA

Hi Bob, when I check the VR on your link, it said "not compatible" with a 76 914 4 banger, did I miss something? thanks, cwl

I can't personally vouch for this, but I like the adjustability:

hah same one as the ebay listing. ASP has it under 914, so it should work fine. I'm ordering one.

I don't think you missed anything. Maybe they changed the design for the 75-76 model year and use a different type of voltage regulator.

Yes. Here's mine. It is a solid state VR. I have never had it in the car (maybe I should see how it actually works). I keep it as a spare. I'll give it a try later and see how it does.
