My 73 2L was my DD in SoCal for a decade 75-85 & 127,000+/- miles without the center console OT in to monitor - including out to "The River" to water ski in the summer (100-120), & once I had the fuel pump relocated to up front behind the steering rack cover (per the Porsche Tech/Service Bulletin) in 76, I never had a problem with vapor lock.
I got it 12/75 at about 45k & went to about 172K miles, then I stored it in 6/85 due to a non-fault accident when parked after a 80-83 full rolling resto/rebuild.
I did follow the factory reccos for all services & oil/filter, etc. done by my factory trained 914 specialist independent, so it was always running right.
