While at the Garold 914 Fest I noticed that he had a Sepia Brown 914. It has the 98 color code which means paint to Porsche color.
I have never seen one before and I hope someone will take on the project to restore it because I am thinking it might be worth it.

Sepia Brown 914 Thread

OK maybe there are others
GaroldShaffer
It is a 73 2.0L with the all the options. I can get some better pictures tomorrow, it's pouring rain here now. These are pictures from when I picked it up. Make no mistake it is rough.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about how cool this car is and could be again, unfortunately, it's beyond my financial capabilities @ the moment - but I too believe this one is worth the effort!!!
billh1963
Cool! That would match my '72 911 Scotty is working on!

theleschyouknow
that is a cool color
the karman plate has been painted over so I would imagine it's been repainted at sometime -whether original or not who knows confused24.gif
hopefully someone can save it

There was some discussion about this on Saturday during the bbq. It no doubt has been painted, as you noted the tag was sprayed over - but the inside of the trunks, as well as some spots on the body (where the poor respray had chipped away) revealed what I personally believe is the original paint - thats what led to the checking of the paint tag.

But, it really boiled down to - how many cars have you ever seen color changed TO sepia from another color? I've seen plenty changed from sepia to something else! not saying it couldn't have happend, but....

Someone should do this car justice, I would love to be able to take this on as a project, but it isn't in the cards for me right now - if it was, I'd have to try to talk Garold out of his 'office chairs' as I think they'd fit the car perfectly! sunglasses.gif

ha! agreed I figured it had been discussed
if I ever have the means and opportunity I can't promise I wouldn't the go sepia brown route - it'd look cool with joe at series9's yellow ATS's on it!

My very first 914 - '73 2.0 Appearance group car Sepia Brown with brown interior. Terrific car. Bought it new.
colingreene
I once saw a 914-6 painted that brown. it originally was irish green.
I wanted to excavate my arteries with a stick it was so bad.
designerguy90
It was a sweet car to crawl around in Garold that's for sure!
GaroldShaffer
Took some time today to take some pictures. I am shocked at how nice the longs look. Just might make a project for someone shades.gif No doubt that it will need a ton of work, but it is a 73 2.0L with paint to order paint job.

And before anyone says, yes I know I have a sickness. I just can't help myself. blink.gif

I wish we lived closer Garold, I'd be picking up a lot more projects.
zach914v8

That was the color of my car before I painted it. We used to called it the poopsicle. tooth.gif
Vapor_locked
That's about what I figured it'd look like underneath, but you're right Garold, the longs are not what I would've expected - the jack points even look nice!

I've seen much, much worse saved, and not even being original 2.0ltrs!! Of course it's a big project, requiring a full blown resto, but I believe it deserves it - As much as I like the brown, thank God it wasn't aubergine, or ice green met. - It would've been in my garage already!!!!! shades.gif

I had a Triumph Spitfire that colour once, Triumph Russet Brown. Otherwise known as Dog S*it Brown barf.gif & and was equally as rusty

I wonder if the strike prone British Unions in the 70's did an exchange trip to Germany to teach them how to build in rust from the get go?

914forme
original owner thought process more than likely after a few beer.gif beer3.gif

Owner: I want to order a 914
Friend: They rust on there way over on the boat.
Owner: idea.gif Special order the paint in rust brown.
Friend: Great Idea beerchug.gif

I don't know, I like the color. Think it is very 70s

Even though the 1973 914 2.0 is my favorite driver from the 70’s; Three letters come to mind when taking in the sheer volume of raw exposed decomposing iron… DTB

OK, for all you Sepia Brown haters out there. I have a new reference for that color...

Resting peacefully in my garage awaiting my attention.
Outside possibility I may have to punt it as my living situtaion is switching to a pending house purchase that doesn't have a garage. sad.gif

Thanks for the answer and pic. But I have to ask, how ridiculously awesome does the house have to be that you would consider buying it without a garage?
bkrantz
Does the paint match the rust or the rust match the paint?

Pretty awesome, at least from an immediate positive equity perspective. smile.gif Seller accepted our low ball offer on a sub $400k basement rancher w/ carport in an area of $1MM+ homes. Highly sought after neighborhood close to UT and downtown Knoxville. House renovation plans per the wife will keep me busy for a good while also includes enclosing the carport into a tandem 2 car garage w/ workshop. Backyard big enough for separate 4+ car garage, RV parking, etc. later.

Oh nice! The thought of space for an additional 4 car garage down the road makes the carport bearable. Congrats on the house, Knoxville is a great area, UT is high on my son's list for school next year.

I had a brown 930 that was “Rosewood Metallic”..
It was a Company Car and they insisted it not be a flashy color.
I actually liked it and when I had it stripped and painted, I
considered different colors but I had it painted Rosewood again..

Because nothing flashy at all about a wide hipped 930. Love it. My kind of place to work!
