I need to replace a speedometer cable on the 1973. The one that's currently in there is way too long. No telling where it came from or what application it was really intended for.

Can anyone shed any light on what the correct length should be? I see several different lengths available from the usual sources, but no info on which is right for my application.

Thanks in advance.

There were only 2 speedometer cables for the 914. One was used from 70 through 74, and it was the long one. In 75 they switched to a shorter one that hooked to an EGR counter in the passenger footwell. There was a second cable to hook it to the speedometer. The early cable can be used on the later cars to bypass the EGR counter.
