Wild cats "open game"???

I can see this being abused pretty easily by those that do not like cats.....

not much sport in my opinion either........I think a better solution would be prison time for idiots that release cats into the wild (or parking lot or other places like that) since they are too stupid to get their animals fixed/netuered.....

I just returned today from Borinquen Puerto Rico--there was a dog, very big dog, on the runway and we could not take off. We call up the locals on unicom and they speed out to get the mutt. They were not going to catch it, so they tried in vain to run it over!!!

Then, one of my crewmembers who is from there told me this: They ( the local policia ) gather up the loose mutts and take them to the zoo and feed them to the lions and such!!

Tiny island, they have no time whatsoever with an exploding pet population---

I say let them shoot them. Feral cats often carry and spread disease to household pet cats. They are wild and unfriendly. They are a major source for overpopulation. We have a small problem with them here, and I love our two cats, but the feral cats that run here are mean, get in territorial fights with our cats, they spray everywhere, and then in the spring there are too many feral kittens around, we do what is neccessary to keep our pets healthy and happy.

The only other option is to live trap them and then spay/nuter them and then realise them back (but not near my house).

We have that option here, but it don't stop the disease and territorial fighting.

I work with several people that are from Wisconsin and every single one of them hates cats and are dog people. I am not saying that all residents are that way, but from what I have seen, there is a definite minority in cat lovers/respectors in WI. Having said that, how do they intend to regulate this? What if someone's house cat accidentally gets lose? Is it fair game for these so called hunters? I think there is another solution, a humane solution, to the feral cat problem. Here in TX, we have groups that catch them, tag them, fix them, and immunize them and reintroduce them back into the wild to live a full life. If they allow people to shoot cats without collars, who is to say some people won't shoot a cat just because and take the collar off it? As you can see, I personally think this law is idiotic in every sense of the word and should be turned down and forgotten.

Every year in Wisconsin alone, an estimated 2 million wild cats kill 47 million to 139 million songbirds, according to state officials.

I don't think that a spay / neuter / release program really helps the 'real' wildlife.

It really depends how bad the problem is. If cats roaming around are the dominant source of wildlife, then they go the way of the coyote..... open season.

Who will pay for it? Lets hike taxes to pay for that program. It will be much cheaper to shoot them and be done with it.

Amity OR, huh? Well, my Dad's farm near Grand Ronde, OR, had a big time wild cat probelm which he very effectively dealt with the same way....shoot them on site. Without control, THEY were out completely of control, as you mention. (And) The smell was...........

Mike,
Need to bororw a cage trap? I trapped one and brought it to the animal shelter after it hurt my cat three times costing $1600 in vet bills. I should've done it earlier, that money would've bought some nice parts... laugh.gif

Its a problem.

Humanity is what you can afford. If someone wants to front the money to do the trap then fix them, more power to them. Not a single penny of my tax dollars though.

I'm more "if I kill it, I'll eat it" type of guy. My morals are fine on letting someone who is okay with shooting cats do it though. And if they want to eat them, thats a plus.

To everyone this is a real problem here. I don't know if this is the answer ( not a hunter Love all animals) but we have 10 wild cats per square mile. Thats alot of cats. This cats are killing just to kill If I can get the one by my house I will kill it!!

Coyotes are great cat hunters. Wisconsin is welcome to take some coyotes from my area and let them go to work.

My cats are all indoor cats due to the fact that so many cats and small dogs have become dinner for the wild animals around my neck of the woods.

I always feel sorry for people when they post lost cat or dog signs up here in the mountians. Its very likely their pet isnt lost, but has been eaten.
