I didn't post the information last year and got slamed by you guys.

So this year I wanted to make sure I posted the information. This will be our 3rd year attending a 20+ year old event. We like to take the caravan up Friday and leave Sunday afternoon.
Last year, we drove the flared orange six I just completed. There was only 3 other 914's there and we had the only six. This year, again I will be driving a recently completed six up there. Probably no flares though.
Anyone wanting to come please check out the web site. It is hosted by the CWR and PNWR.

So, can we put this in the Nailed or events area? Admins?

Heck, I was just up there last weekend skiing. Didn't drive the 914 thou.....
Coming back, the 'merican border guards are getting meaner and meaner....even seached the friggin car. That was a waste of 30 minutes.

You werent the only one.
I am hoping that a couple, heck even one other club member or couple show up in a 914. The older gen air cooled crowd really doesn't have a presence in this event. It is mostly populated by cars less than 5 years old. So lots and lots of 986's, 996's, some 993's and just not many early cars.

Why is it as an American citizen there is more hassle crossing back into America from Canada than the other way around.
I have crossed the border at the Peace Arch and Sumas hundreds of times and the Canadians are always more friendly. Do all the American border guards assume that you have been in the gaslight district of Vancouver
Back on topic - Wish I could go, Whistler is fun in the summer, bit to far of a drive.

Just giving this a bump as what little spots remian are going fast. My plan is to drive my latest flared 914-6 to this. Last couple of years, there was only 3-4 teeners there. It would be nice to see a stronger 914 showing.

hey guys - i'm one of the 914's that showed up at whistler last year - i've attended both west coast classics, and I also do a few local pnwr events - whistler is a really good time, especially of you are with a "non-car" person - there's lots to do up there - all the folks are real nice, and i was very pleased to take 3rd place in class (class by year, i think) - it was great to see 914's get appreciated!!! - the only shortcoming for me about whislter is the lack of any organized drives - there are a bunch of great roads up there!!!

There was another 914World.com member up there last year!
It was me..I'm the one that was checking out your car next to the Blackcomb ski lift. I was up there to hang out for a few days and happen to come by the event.
Wish I could attend with my 6 , but that would be along way to drive

I was also there last year but just came for the car show. I had just finished my teener but it called for rain that weekend and I figured my wife wouldnt appreciate a 6 hour rainy drive with 32 year old targa seals above her.We took the van and checked out the cars in the am and then went Mountain biking. What a blast. I will introduce myself to your group if I can make it this year. Yes I have new seals but a suuny weekend would sure be nice.

Thats funny, I didn't even know it was going on and I went last year with the wife / Dogs just to get away for the weekend. It was a rainy sunday morning right?
YOU must have had the nice orange Flared 914 that had some trouble starting?
I had the Orange 912, I think ours were the 2 oldest cars there- besides the 1 real 50's speedster. It was quite a surprise to wake up and see all the Porsche driving around!
Its a cool weekend, and theres LOTS of fun stuff to do at Whistler, hiking, biking, eating, drinking...you run the whole gambit there. I wanna go again.
Bob O
p.s. Was thinking, its kinda weird that many 912 (and some 911) owners are taking the "porsche" engines out and putting 914 engines in...and the 914 guys (like you) are taking the 914 engines out and putting the "porsche" engines in. A /6 is easy in a 912, but the T4 makes it more fun to drive....sick circle.

Forwarded message from Bob Benson, Whistler Weekend Chairman.
Please direct your response to Bob at the email address shown below.
Hi Everyone,
I would like to update you on the latest Whistler news.
Congratulations to those of you who have already signed up for the event, you have set a record for registrations for this time of year. Over two thirds of the block of hotel rooms set aside for us at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler has been taken. If you want to take advantage of these inexpensive room rates, you should register as quickly as possible. If you have a favourite car number from a previous year or just a lucky number for your car, our Registrar has asked me to ask you to get your registration in ASAP to secure it.
As for on-line registration, I have some bad news. Global Payments screwed us around for 4 months before putting unrealistic demands on us and we have declined their services, so registration will be by fax or mail only. The registration form can be downloaded from our website, www.whistlerweekend.org and you can securely fax it in or mail it in with your payment to our registrar. Upon receipt of the registration form and payment, Marg will contact you and provide you with the code you need to book your room at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.
For those of you trailering your cars up to the event, there is room for your truck and trailer to park at the Chateau on their outside lot. You should advise them when you book your room. We are also providing security for the parking lots overnight Friday and Saturday to complement the Chateau security already in place. This is in response to your feedback from previous years.
For those of you competing for the Whistler Colby Cup, we have settled on what the third event will be, and it will be Porsche slot car racing. This exciting event will be taking place during the Friday Welcome Reception and you will be competing 3 at a time driving a scaled version of the old Vancouver Molson Indy track and racing scale model Porsche 917’s on pumped up voltage (speed) and computer timed. There is a gentleman here in Vancouver who designs and builds these race courses that imitate the famous race tracks around the world. We chose this one because it is portable and it's design is part of Vancouver’s racing history. It will also be great fun watching the competition in the environment of the Welcome Reception. We had the opportunity to try it out at the Mission Historic Races a couple of weeks ago. I am here to tell you that Rick Woolley is just as fast with these as he is with his Boxster S.
The Porsche International Whistler Weekend 2005 is shaping up to be one of the best ever and we want you to be part of it. If you have any questions at all, please feel free to contact me at bobb911sc@shaw.ca and I will be happy to help you.
Best regards,

http://www.pnwr.org/calendar/default.asp?d...?date=8/26/2005They still have to fill out some information. Exit 206 is about 4 miles north of my exit. So just 4-5 minutes north of Marysville. Last 3 years, they have left the rest stop off of 206 around 10AM. A BUNCH of PNWR members meet there. The main caravan starts way down south early in the morning. Our group joins up at 206. Last year I think we had just over 40 cars. Most take Porsche's of course, but you would be surprised to see how many club members take the family along in some sort of SUV followed by Dad in his Porsche. Pretty cool really.

Subject: Whistler 2005 Update
Hi Everyone,
We are now approaching 100 registrations for Whistler this year and we are close to running out of our block of rooms at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. In agreement with the Fairmont Chateau, we were to return any unused rooms to their central registration bank by July 26. But because it looks like we will exceed our allocation of rooms, the Fairmont Chateau has agreed to extend our very special pricing for rooms AS LONG AS THEY ARE AVAILABLE, for the numbers above 100. You need to know that the Chateau was sold out last year for the month of August so if you wish to take advantage of this room special, you should register ASAP. Don’t be disappointed if you want to enjoy the luxury the Chateau and it’s 3 pools, air conditioning, bars, lounges, spa’s, room service and unparalleled customer service. These rates also apply to extended stays before and after the weekend.
Along the same lines, there will be Goody Bags for the first 140 cars registered and these are loaded with excellent stuff. We are also going to allow preferred car numbers up until July 15th so if you have a favourite or past Whistler number in mind, register now.
We are still holding some numbers for some Whistler regulars but we need you to contact Marg ASAP.
I hope you are enjoying your summer and we look forward to seeing you in August.
Best regards,
Bob Benson

If I see him, I will be sure to say hello for you.
Good time for an update. Reminder for those going on the drive up on the 26th. If anyone wants, we can join up at my place and then head up to the rest stop. The group shows up there around 9:30AM and leaves the Smokey Point rest stop at 10AM sharp! It is just past the 207 mile marker on I-5.

Hi Everyone,
As we approach the 2005 Porsche International Whistler Weekend I wanted to let you know that the Sea to Sky Highway is in the best shape it has ever been for the last 10 years. Just about all of the construction north of Squamish that affects your driving has been completed. You will be on new asphalt and in some cases, 4 lanes of it. The only active road work at this point starts at Sunset Marina and goes 7 km. north to Lions Bay, after that you are free to enjoy what was one of Road and Track Magazines “Top Ten Highways” in the world. A word of caution; because there is no litmus test for drivers using this highway, there has been increased enforcement of the rules of the road which does include speed, so be careful.
Our Whistler Crew recently completed a site inspection and you are in for a real treat with your rooms at the Fairmont Chateau. They are not small and in fact are larger than I expected and we have posted pictures of the hotel on the Whistler website at www.whistlerweekend.org . On the home page click where it says “click here for photo’s of the hotel” and have a look.
When you arrive at the Chateau on Friday, you will be directed to park your Porsche in the parking garage, directed by signage and people if you are one who does ask for directions, and then go and check in at the front desk. This is especially paramount for those 50 Porsches driving up with Dennis Rood. You will be in a Porsche only (plus a few W.W. support vehicles) parking area and we ask that you settle in one spot for the weekend. We hope to be able to post your car # on the wall or floor so that you will have that one spot for the weekend. For those of you hauling your cars in trailers, we have secured outdoor parking for you beside the Hotel and within our security zone. You will need directions to that parking.
For those of you that are yet to register, the Fairmont Chateau is keeping the room pricing available to you for as long as they have rooms left. We currently have over 120 rooms occupied and with the long range weather forecast looking great, I am told the golfers start taking everything left for the month so please act quick if you want to stay at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Go to www.whistlerweekend.org and download the registration form, fill it out and fax it off to Marg Woolley as written on the form.
In closing, I want to thank our southern cousins at PNWR and ORPCA for hosting myself and some of the crew at the Porscheplatz Corral and hospitality tent. It was a marvelous event and you were all so friendly and accommodating. Let us return the hospitality.
Have a great summer and we’ll see you at Whistler.
