I have a 71 six that the oil lines leak (what's new). Is there a method to
stop the only line leaks. When we took the engine out we could barely get
the lines apart.

Is torque the answer? Can teflon tape stop the leaks?

Thanks

Usually the answer is new lines.

Don't use teflon because oil degrades it and the leak will return.

Look around

There are other sealant tapes.

No Changes, stock 88K miles.

If you can rotate the union of the two hoses a little as you gradually tighten them it can help seat them. It's kind of like lapping them without compound

Check for deterioration on the inside of the female receivers and the outside of the
male fittings. Dings, grooves, rust etc. can interfere with sealing.
I've never heard of inferior replacement hoses.
Teflon tape is for tapered pipe thread. It has no place here.
Are you certain the leaks are from the fittings ? not the hose portion ?
Do your hoses still have aluminum collars ?

+ 1, I always thought, why not just do it right the first time.

That's a great idea. Taking to another step lap the union with compound.

Then fill the system with 10 quarts of oil and find out it's still leaking and then take it apart to do it right. Brilliant!

And if any lapping compound residue gets past your work, your engine be worked! sheeplove.gif

I'm not aware of new lines that include the mfg. date. The car is very original number
matching with 88K. My effort is restore the original equipment.
