So plan is to mate to chassis this Thursday. Need to put some miles on and then redo
valve adjustments.
Will be participating in Ruchlos Rallye with some of 914Mob. Looking very much forward to this.
Thanks for looking in!

Awesome progress! It's so nice to run an engine on a stand before installing it.

Thanks Dan & Tom.
I’m quite surprised at how well the engine ran prior to this rebuild.
In addition to the sad valves on #4, all the valve guides were worn, valves had to be replaced & the case had someone in there before. Found evidence of Mr Rod knocking.
It’s had a tough life. We will now treat with some respect.
Porsche built some tough engines that’s for sure.

Ok, back on track. Shout out to
@TonyA for bringing the chassis to the shop.
A few days of fettling, engine mounted, wiring began, linkage etc.
Carbs were quite a challenge. To get to that sweet spot for “most” driving conditions.

New Pirelli on board.

A good buddy of mine Dave Tr. picked it up for me. Gave her a drink & brought back to the shop.

So more fiddling at the shop for carb adjustments and fixing tach signal plus timing.
Was able to take home. Runs like a banshee.
Well pleased. Now to get some details addressed. Wire wrapping and layout, fixing some
headlights that decided to work when they feel like it, plus the air hoses for heat.

Beautiful car and love the engine choice! Something about the smaller displacement motors that really compliment the spirit of these car, for me anyway.

Dion,
So, your engine was a aluminum block someone put T or E pistons in, 30+ years ago?
Now it is a 2.4S+?
Engine sounds great. I am leaning also, so I have a few questions.
1 What compression?
2 what valve springs did you use to achieve 7K RPM?
3 Distributor advance?
4 85mm or 84mm pistons?
5 What camshaft?
Thanks,
Matt

@mate914 '67 sandcast case, Biral cylnders, JE 85mm pistons,10.1 compression, E cams, Billy Ring machine shop did the heads. I do not know the exact specs on valve springs. i believe we set advance at 10*. It has a 123distributor.

Performance valve springs (a notch more than stock) and machine work done by Billy at Performance auto works in kearneysville WV.

@orangebones Yes looking forward to this Rallye.
@porschetub Dean, thanks my friend. Con rods ? Oh those little Pauter things?
Just a little somethin’ somethin’
@rgalla9146 Rory you & Dean zeroed in on those con-rods
@gereed75 Thanks buddy, yeah I think the 2.4 should have been the standard 6 for the 914. Seems made for it, IMHO.
@Maltese Falcon Thanks Marty!
Doing a punch list before this rally. Bolts to be torque’d, spare wipers, bulbs, fuses, fuel pump, tool kit, oil, etc.

Matt
I basically have the same motor except 9.5 JE pistons and DC30 mod Solex cams. Really like the cams. Good low end power with a nice almost S top end kick.
Stock rods and valve train. Revs to 7200 no problem.
