I hope you have deep pockets$$$

Not any more beer.gif

Actually, with the Canadian dollar at a 30% discount I'm surprised that all the rusty American 914 owners aren't lined up trying to get their projects into his shop for the winter biggrin.gif

As for my car, I figure that if you have a small hole or a big hole it makes no difference, I'm having him just cut everything out and replace with new or fabricate what's needed.

all things considered, that is not the most hideous thing i have seen.

Some fiberglass and mud and you are good to go. Have fun with that project?

I'd rather go this route than pay a premium for a nice shiny one that really looks like this inside all that solid looking disguised rot.

Mikes got,a new metal guy and restoration design is having a sale on metal so I'm in good hands smile.gif

Hell hole is already fixed and new floor pans and longs going in next week, but ya, ugly starting point

OK, now you guys are scaring me!

"73 California car stored the last 19 years indoors, but lived outdoors (in So Cal) before that.
Knew it had a "little" typical 914 rust.
Battery tray and support, right jack hole, a bit of the inner rocker (assumed the left but never used it, so don't know) also, and the two corners on the back that have the factory jack points were getting weak, and it has a little bubbling top rear of the front fenders and touch below the windshield.

When I went to swap the engine I noticed you can see the ground under the battery ()not wide open, but a definite hole. Figured that was just eh shelf, but I guess that is the "Hell hole"

So, what am I in for? Min/Max?

welcome.png Wayner, Sounds like you are already making progress. Please do keep us posted on your project...with more photos please! Bringing another 914 back is a very rewarding job of work. Press on beer.gif

I should have some good pics of mine next week or so.
(Suspension pickup points are replaced and the dogleg below the hell hole is solid once again and it's only been a few weeks from project start.)

I was in Mike's shop a couple of weeks ago, watching some welding. I guess that must have been your car! Congrats on the fixing!
wayner
Was it your car that I test fit these wheels on?

If so,it is beautiful and when I get scared I look at it and it makes me feel better!

Unfortunately, no. I was just there getting a part. My car is being fixed by me, and thus never gets more than 5 km from my house, haha.

Are you talking time, effort or cost?
I honestly don't know what to tell you but I guess my cars progress should reveal some clues ??

Since I don't weld (not well) and I don't have space to keep the cart where I can work on it for more than about a week at a time, these days it is more $$ than time.

I figured I would find an experienced shop and have them weld in new pieces as needed.

Not looking for a concours restoration, but also not looking for a patch job that will fail in 5 to 10 years.

Anyone want to take some guesses from experience?

Is that an official criteria? Should my ad say, "A/C runs cold. Hell hole smaller than volley ball." ?

Seems like there should be a scale: ping pong ball, baseball, softball, tether ball, volleyball, basket ball.

You should call Mike, seriously

The Canadian dollar is your friend right now. ($5k= $3.5k and 10k = $7k)
Ship it up or have him pick it up and return it in spring

His new metal guy is a genius

Another before pic
(Or after cutting away crap pic)

My decision to flare it and go with fiberglass fenders will sure make their structural work easier to get at

Foosball, marble, Pea, B.B.

Mine as of this weekend is "marble" - maybe I should stop poking while I'm ahead but I haven't opened anything up yet

3 years but no photos of finished product.

Did this one ultimately get finished?
