I have an appearance group car, so I have the vinyl on the roof sail panels.

As I restore/restyle it , I was thinking of rather than putting on the original vinyl (I think it was made to look like a soft top), or just going to body color, I am considering vinyl wrap, probably in a brushed metal color (Like a 911/912 terga look).

Thoughts?

On a 911 targa the grain is vertical, up and over.
Vinyl wrap you can do almost anything, another option would be to Dip the sails.

The whole car wrapped in stainless would be cool a la DeLorean

Yes, a Targa wraps up and over. Since a 914 breaks at the roofline, I figure front to back on the sides and across the top on the bar.
Then the choice is to paint or wrap the removable roof panel?

It will be smooth, but not sure if black or body color works best.

When I had my 70 painted about 10yrs ago I had the sail panel painted back with a little texture to it. I think it turned out great. I sold the 70 last year so I can't get you anymore detailed pictures than these.
