Robert Kirby was a long time competitor that ran a 914 in E and F Production for many years.

My experience with him began in the '70's. Will miss his presense in all things.

Brett,

Thanks for posting. I read the SCCA posts about Mr. Kirby - what a guy. He will me MISSED. Those kind of people are what make this sport so rewarding beyond the fun we have on the track.

Thanks for posting this, Brett.

I remember first seeing Bob Kirby and his 914 at the SCCA Runoffs when they were held at Road Atlanta. Of course he became one of the favorites since he drove a 914 in E Production. His car always looked good, black with gold trim. I last saw him on the Speed broadcast of the F Production Runoffs last year.

He was the first or one of the first to run the stove pipe from the front of the car to the fan for cooling.

He and I swapped ideas on quite a few occasion- What a guy!

Sorry to hear about this.

Damn. I knew him also. Dave Finch pioneered the stove pipe for Kirby. They where really good friends. He will be missed. Thanks for letting us know Brett. I'll let some of the other racers in our area know about this.

For what it is worth Mark Hotchkis, driving Kirby's car at Willow back in Feb turned a faster lap time than the fastest EP car on the same day. SO expect to see that car doing some damage to FP in the future.
