This person had a great start in life, an early exotic present.

Mr. Allen Swift:  Born - 1908 - Died  2010

This man owned and drove the same car for 82 years.

Can you imagine even having the same car for 82 years?

Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , Massachusetts ) received this

1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly-P1 Roadster from his father,

brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928.

He drove it up until his death ... At the age of 102.

He was the oldest living owner of a car that was purchased new.

Just thought you'd like to see it.

                                                                                                       Rolls Royce Phantom I 1928

It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death.

It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch,

dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition.

82 years - That's approximately 13,048 miles per year (1087 per month).

1,070,000 that's miles not kilometres, that is 1721998 kilometres

That's British engineering of a bygone era.

I don't think they make them like this anymore

Very nice indeed!

I've only had this one 20 years! Photo taken on W Stage, the Harry Potter blue/green screen stage at Shepperton studios while I was making Nanny McPhee returns for Working Title Pictures & Universal.

I fully restored this car over 12 years as it was abandoned in the Arizona Desert !
For anyone who's interested, there's some before & after resto pics on my twitter feed tweets & replies. (Address on signature) Enjoy!

INteresting story & cool car for sure!

Well we're now over halfway there with my 914 since 1975 (although she's been non-running since 85, when she was whacked while parked in 85, but saved in my garage for resto - after a rolling resto `80-83).

And we're there with my 2 other DD's added on: `85 BMW 325e & `88 VW Westfalia Vanagon (T3/T25) - both since new. biggrin.gif

My wife had her `73 Honda Civic CVCC since new `73-88 as her DD, until I got T-boned in it by an inattentive driver.

`73 914-2.0 - 1975-85 DD = 10 years as DD, & 1975-2016 = 41 years owned
`85 BMW 325e - 1985-2016 as DD = 31 years
`88 VW Westy - 1988-2016 as DD = 28 years
> for combined DDs of 69 years & 99 years owned

For my wife it's 31 + 28 on the 325e & Westy = 59 years +
`73 Honda Civic CVCC - 1973-88 = 35 years
> 94 years of combined DD's

Yeah - I know - it's not the same, but with any luck on longevity, we may near his time with my 914 by about 2057, when I'd be 105! blink.gif

Oh, but we had to work for, save & buy our own cars, so we started later than he did! smile.gif

Cheers! beerchug.gif
