Would a bad throttle valve switch keep the car from starting?
I've ruled out a lot other options and I know the engine is getting spark.

You didn't say, so I'll assume 4 cylinder with D-Jet (1.7 or 2.0).
No that's won't keep it from starting.
Did you check your cylinder head temp sensor wire? That one will keep it from starting.
