Finally got engine running but I suspect vacuum leaks. Was wondering what the best way is to detect vacuum leaks without a smoke machine? Mi hu

for example with a vacuum tester tool. You can find them under 20 bucks which will be fine to test the hoses. You create a vacuum pumping air out while the other side is plugged and watch the gauge if you keep or loose the vacuum.
you can also buy (instead of a tool) 20 bucks worth of vacuumhoses and replace the old ones.20 bucks will not be enough to replace them all. Keep in mind you cannot just use any hose for the stronger-vacuum ones.... good luck!

Do you like cigars? They make excellent smoke machines.

You can use a propane torch, unlit, set to a low flow rate to hold in the areas you think you have a leak. RPM's go up, you found your leak.

I made a smoker out of a paint can. Lots of how to do videos on You Tube. They also sell them on ebay if you don't have the time.

I built mine for a leak investigation on a 4.0 Ford. But we'll rework it for testing D-jets when we finish up Mark and Mike's engines.

Or use a water spray bottle and squirt suspected area. Idle will drop when it sucks in water.
