Hello all

its been a while since I posted last, not been well for a while, its been a fun year and a bit NOT!:-). All good now though and cracking on with my car once again.

My original intention was to make a newish FI system for the 2.0 engine I had rebuilt but recently I decided just to fit a set of carbs as it was less hassle and less expensive and I didnt have any of the original FI bits to form the basis of the set up. I just came to the conclusion that after being ill I just wanted to see the car up and running and get it on the road.

However I was going to place an order for some carbs in the New Year when a neighbour mentioned that he had a FI system from a type 4 2.0 ... from a bus.

Oh I do wish life was simpler:-) Now Im thinking there must be a way of making this thing work with my engine. Its a bit of a wind fall maybe I could make it work.

The engine has been rebuild with 96 mm pistons (KB) and a web cam number 73 which isnt a stock cam. I appreciate the original system requires the FI unit to be mapped exactly to the right year and size of engine and may not have worked that well with the mild upgrades.

Ive not seen the bits yet I'll take a look over the holidays. Its also a bit of a bummer Ive bought a low pressure fuel pump and built my wiring harness and run a single fuel line for carbs.

Im sure its a long shot but I just wondered if there would be any life in the bus FI set up for the 914?

thanks folks, all the best

Andrew

The engine specs are pretty close, aside from compression ratio. If it's a complete package it could work. One of the hurdles, right off the bat, is that your 2.0 should have three bolt intakes and the bus FI will have four bolt intakes. But that's probably the biggest hurdle. I'd probably go with the carbs if it were my car.

thanks for that. My heads were shot and had been repaired before I got the car so I took a set of new bus heads that had been reworked to 914 spec from stateside engineering (a UK vw and 914 specialist). So good news is that they have 4 studs:-)

Bleyseng
just install and run it and adjust the AFM if needed but it should run ok. Ljet is nice

I took my injectors, along with new rubber elbows, to local hydraulic hose shop. They removed the old ones and crimped on the new ones for $20 dollars.

Thanks for that.

Ill have a look at the box of bits when I get it and see if I have all the parts.

Fingers crossed:-)
