ohmy.gif Do not know what has been mentioned on here before..but I just returned from my local aircooled specialists to have my heads rebuilt and found out this...

Weber has officially announced to the European Union that they have ceased being a company---all products will no longer be manufactured, ever.

They are trying to move operations to China, but it seems several billion dollars in reparations must be made before the EU will approve it---

Is this true??? I find it hard to believe---
i love porsche
i hope not...i still need carbs!

Richard at PMO once told me one of the reasons he decided tomakes his own carb, based on the Webers made for 911s, was that Carter had purchased Weber. He may have meant that particular part of Weber, or maybe he meant the whole company, or maybe I misunderstood and Weber had bought Carter. Whatever, it is my impression that the last 911 carbs made by Weber were made in GA, and weren't up to the standards set by the older ones made in Europe. The Cap'n

This is one of those perpetually unconfirmed rumors. First, Weber is not just a carb company. They've been making fuel injection systems, including OEM, for quite some time now. There were rumors that there was a strike in a Spanish plant that made Weber carbs, but that rumor has never been confirmed, either. The only place I can find reference to it are SOME places that sell Weber bits.

You'd expect that at least some of this would have made at least the European business newspapers, and Google has nothing on this. Perhaps Italian and Spanish newspapers don't have any online editions (hard to believe), but the UK press does, and one would expect at least a MENTION of this. Nada, even in the London Financial Times' archives.

Weber kits are getting more expensive, but so is everything else that comes from Euro land, as the US dollar as fallen by 16% against the Euro in the last two years.

Weber bought the carb operations from Carter. Carter fuel pumps, etc., are owned by Federal-Mogul.

In any case, there are thousands of used IDFs out there. Parts are still available, and I expect that new parts will become available from some supplier eventually, as it's a pretty good sized market.

If not, perhaps this will finally tempted all of you into entering the 80s and going with fuel injection. biggrin.gif
