This car is definitely re-earning its nickname: The Phoenix. Keep up the good work and enjoy it when its done.

I think of Rich's Creamsicle as the PNW Phoenix. But I remember the old name too. Just glad to see her getting some love again.

After applying the chip guard the satin black paint was shot on the roof.
I think the gloss is just about right. Don't you think?

Proceeded to Satin Black paint the bumpers, grills etc.

Looks great. I like the satin black. I've been using the VHT epoxy - chassis paint rattle cans in satin black. Used on bumpers, targa top, for sail panels, rockers, and front and rear lower valences, as well as the black chassis and suspension parts. It sprays really well when at normal room temperature.

New tires purchased this week.

In need of the following items to proceed with resurrection for a 1974 914:

-Complete stock black interior including door panels.
-Windshield
-Rear Spoiler - The short one that bolts to the lid
-Stock seat belts with retractors.

Let me know what you got and how much. Maybe we can do the deal(s) at Hershey coming up on April 22nd.

Dave

The original had scratches and chips and an uneven color so it had to be redone.
Here is the procedure my buddy did:

Sanded it smooth
Applied sealer primer
Applied chip guard
Painted Satin Black
Clear coated.

The weather in New Jersey has not be conducive to painting so, progress has been slow. We are expecting yet another Nor'easter with 6-12" of wet snow and high winds. What a way to usher in the first day of spring!

Tested paint on trunk lid. Sprayed 4 coats of single stage and it came out fine. When the weather breaks the car will be trailered to a body shop with state of the art spray booth. Then it's on to wet sanding. Love the color!! Can't wait to see the whole car painted.

nice!! getting close, question- did you de-chrome the bumpers? or just sand, then prime and paint?

They were painted by the PO. How they got that way you would have to ask him.

Couldn't wait for spray booth time so car was painted in the garage. There are a few minor blemishes that can be wet sanded out (single stage paint).
Can't wait to start re-assembly.

...By the way he is using single stage paint for this project.

What was the reason for using single stage? More original look, or something else? I'm asking because I have no painting experience, but contemplating doing my own paint when the time comes. It seems like most are going with basecoat/clearcoat these days.

IMHO single stage is more forgiving, or easier to fix blems, not to mention less work. My buddy who is doing this car, worked for a body shop for many years. Given the option for an older car, he chooses single stage every time. Plus, that's what they used in the day.

The pictures are a little off but, Phoenix Red is more orange than red.

Phoenix Red is actually an orange color, not a red. It's partway between Signal Orange and Tangerine.

In the bright sunlight it looks very orange, but at dusk it has a reddish hue, tint, to it. It's one of my favorite colors Porsche used.

I may be a bit biased though.

Looks great. Can't wait to see it together.

Rear bumper with new rubber top. Expensive but looks great.
Note rear valance was modified to fit center exit of exhaust.

Front bumper installed with AA "plastic" bumper top. While it's a fraction of the cost of the correct rubber part, it doesn't look as good as the rear. This will be replaced.

Slow progress but, moving forward.
Installed carpet and rollbar and seats. Had to weld in new seat brackets.
Substituted carpeting for the stock seat pad in back on firewall. Has a very neat look and will keep the noise down.
Waiting for dash to be recovered and then installing new windshield.
The seats look awesome with the top off.
Wheel wells painted with chip guard. This is going to be a driver - not a trailer queen!

That car was built to NOT be a trailer queen- too many $ performance upgrades.
Glad to see it will be used and hope it sees an auto-x course or lapping day again..
