Sad, but I have a relatively nice one painted silver that I have never had on a car.
There are several of those around.
Some of them have a partial open position, good for a little extra ventilation.

It was "the thing" in the 1970's. People put sunroofs in everything! All of them leaked. 
All the 'cool' guys have one.
I have a customer who wants one because his wife will not rode in the car with the top off. So he want open that opens. I told him he needs a new wife.

Yes, it is sad to say but I have thrown away 2 or 3 tops over the years on parts cars.
If you're going to do something do it right. 
I think it is for the ejection seat!

my car came with an very nice original top and a body color one with a moon roof - it came from California so that explains a lot, land of fruit and nuts, right?( that's what my cousin that lives in SoCal says anyway -
but do use it a lot here in the summer if it is so hot you don't want the sun burning your bald head and you want air flow it works great! also in winter , if raining - etc -
in fact the top i almost never use is the #12 WAS top i bought from Mark on the first run of those. - just sits in the garage most of the time.-
