Full Version: Question about adjusting valves

I had to replace the rocker assembly while I had the motor out. Now I need to adjust valves.

What is the best method for turning the motor over to get the valves in proper position for adjustment while I've got the motor in this state? Would it be easier to wait till the motor is back in the car and just turn the drive wheel with trans engaged?

Thanks.

A socket on the alternator center bolt seems to be a popular way and others just grab the fan with two hands and turn. Never done either but if the plugs are out it seems like it be pretty easy to turn.

Grab the fan, it's easy and you get quite a bit of leverage that way.

Remove the belt and spark plugs too or does it not matter?

Be sure to turn it in the right direction, as in the direction the engine spins.

Remove plugs, you won't fight compression that way.
