this might be the one for me

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...mMakeTrack=true

does any one know this car and rough range of what its worth?
Joe Bob
First line....I'm listing this for a friend..... finger.gif

Sellers seem to think that exempts them from any responsibility for misrepresentation.

"I" would eyeball that puppy before bidding.
StratPlayer
Seems to be the new trend these days,,, selling for a friend, how stupid do they think the buyers are. bs.gif
messix
trying to contact seller. i haven't found this in local classifieds yet. and do plan on looking at this one. its only about 1.5 hrs away. i dont think i believe the 14,000 miles.
my concren is that they think its worth its weight in gold.
and no pic. of the engine bay or underside, make me think they're hiding something or don't know much about these cars.
Joe Bob
Do you home work and read the 914 buying FAQ....
Yoei66
Looks like it's in nice shape, but as far as that odomoter reading….something smells rotten in Denmark

did you read the ad??? smile.gif

motor said to be rebuilt 15,000 miles ago (same as what the speedo reads)...it is very common to re-calibrate speedo to match engine miles......miles on motor are sometimes more important than the miles on the car.....of course an hour meter could be usefull as well rolleyes.gif
Tom73
Looks like a new paint job. And that will make any car look great in pics.

Opps, missed that in the ad.

seeing the rear trunk with the pad out would be nice. the front too. print out a buyers guide at pelican and study it. look under the carpets. esp at the firewall bottom behind the seats. familiarize yourself with the "hell hole" in the engine compartment, the engine shelve area in front of the battery. there will be sound deadening padding. bring a good flashlight with you and spend a couple of bucks on an ice pick to probe around with. what's your spending limit? determine that before you even look at a car. look at the cars in the classifieds here to help you with your pricing basis. not knowing where you are located in the p.s. area, see if you can find one up north that's rougher than you would care to have. when you can really see wher the rust is, it helps you know where the rust hides dry.gif . nice looking cars in washington can be nightmares. email the seller and ask what it would take to end the auction NOW and get back to us.

i have looked at one all ready it was a 75 with the pass. long crumbling by the front of the door. and front trunk drivers side front low. and pass side floor up front.all rusted thru holes.
and rhody, i live up by millcreek / snohomish area.
'
i have seen prices all over the place from 1,500 to 4,500. the 4,500 one had rust at the batt. and some body rust lower door and 189,000 miles. engine rebuild by local mech. and repait by " family friend" boat painter by trade. ohmy.gif

i've met root-werks and saw his lastest and have based my expectations on that.

Dave @ Triad has a Yellow 74 2.0l for sale in the NWPca ads. Its the yellow car that Dave Said was working on when he died. All the guys finished it afterwards for him.
Should be a good car to buy as it was solid when I saw it last year.....
biggrin.gif
messix
can you give me a link to it

how much?
messix
wow!!!!!! about twice what i want to spend
Bleyseng
You just missed out on the Craigslist car for $700. Dan Root finally had his arm twisted to take it, I couldn't due to no room left.
He fixed a couple a things and sold it back East to a Club member.
Black 74 2.0L but it isn't in the same league as the yellow car IF its the same car I am thinking of.

Always buy the BEST 914 you can get your hands on as they just plain cost double or triple what you think to fix up.

Roger might be interested in selling his yellow 75.....ok car but needs lots of cash to get right.
messix
now see there i go... missing out on a deal again.

i met dan at his house while he was working on his lastest 6 conversion [i think ]seems that he goes thru alot of these.

he gave his phn nmbr. maybe i should call him and give him mine so i can get the next one.

i can do the mechanical work, but want a solid body.

i dont know if i should mention what he told me he paid for the orange 1.7 he just did the 6 in. he said he paid maybe a little to much but that is his fav. color.

beerchug.gif
messix

that depends if there is a deal going on.
Bleyseng
No, he didn't pay too much IMHO...a nice 914 is getting hard to find up here.

Thought maybe since Roger PM'd you maybe there was a deal going on. He has considered selling his 914 on and off again.
messix
he hasn't pm me back.

not sure if if he was telling me confidentially to help a newbie get an idea of what these things go for.

beside as far as i can tell it seems you and he have a business relationship going. wouldn't feel right if i gave you the upper hand. rolleyes.gif

some one else said he gave it up on another thread.

i might be calling you about if you have anything in stock as far as decient drivers.

He (Dan Root) bought the car from Akers in Seattle, I told him about it.

Craig needs to buy the Speedster mark akers has. (Turbo Engine) offer?

There is a couple of 914's at Detriot Auto in Lynnwood Wa. 4k Blk 2.0
messix
thanks Jeff.

have you taken a look at them? what kind of condition are they in?

i might run over and take a look today.
sixnotfour
The black one in the back is the one look at , they cant get it running . fuel pump prob,
Has been there a long time . runs good when running ,paint is nice color change brown to black but not the trunks. Check it out and Giv em hell

messix
solid body? rust?

solid body? rust?

I have offered them money on that black car I think 4 times now. It is a loooong story, been on thier lot for 2 years too.

yeah, seems to be a very rust free car. Ran great, but has a elect prob. No dash lights, no fuel pump, no spark, but turns over. My guess is bad contacts. It is a re-paint (paint job sucks) over brown. Trunks not painted.

Troy - If you want, give me a buzz and we can go down and look at sometime. The just love me down there. happy11.gif

My orange 914 from Akers. Yeah, I have a thing for L20E cars. wub.gif Looking back, I would have been money ahead to grab the blue car from Craig. But I wanted orange. I paid $3800 for it. It's a really solid car, but I still wound up replacing the engine shelf and ripping out the battery tray to make things perfect. It came with Koni adjustables on all 4 corners with factory sway in rear and bigger one up front. VERY solid car. So $3800? Eh, I would have liked to pay $3200 for it, but the sways and Koni's are worth $750 just in parts. They look brand new too. So $3800 was about right, not a deal, just the going rate for the car. Oh, was a 1.7, sold eng for $300, so a little money back from that.

Hey Troy, I have the 914 running now (I was wiring when he stopped by). Swing by and we'll take it for a spin. happy11.gif driving.gif
Root_Werks
Here it is, the $3800 1.7 that now sports a 2.4ROW six. wub.gif And yes, it still has the 1.7 badge on it. I have surprised a few people with it. Sleeper. happy11.gif
messix
thanks Dan. have you seen the prices that being asked for in the local ads?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/car/71107548.html

http://www.collectorcartraderonline.com/ca.../3/78364963.htm

these are just a couple that i have found.

i think i'm best to try to buy from some one with in the club.
messix
oh hey whats days are you off for me to come buy? of course i'll call first

Weekends, always have weekends off. My wife (Michelle) and I took the six out yesterday to visit a house we use to have on Camano Island. Top off, sun was out, really nice drive. driving.gif These cars rock.

Where is Craig? It would be hard to believe he wouldn't have something for you? Is CAMP all out of 914-4's? smile.gif He just had a couple of 2.0's.

messix
he has some spendy stuff. unless he has others that aren't on his web site, i'm looking for something a bit less than $7,200.

but i haven't called him yet. i thought i would see what i could get locally.
Root_Werks
Yeah, I just checked his site, looks like all the 4's are sold. rolleyes.gif I sent you a PM on one in Des Mios. Black 73 2.0. Looks okay in the picture. idea.gif
Root_Werks
Here it is, looks like a small dent in the door?
messix
yeh i just pm'd you .

is that the good side? dry.gif
sixnotfour
You guys see the blue 914 in the back ground on top of rollbar.
Root_Werks
Hmm, there is another blue 914 in the background. Possibly this guy is into the cars? If so, a call should reviel a lot.

If you call and it sounds interesting, let me know. We'll go down and check it out.

Good side? Maybe? cool.gif Chrome bumpers, I like the tires/wheels. idea.gif

Good idea, if you tell him you will be bringing a "914 guy" with you, they usually spill the beans about anything they can think of.

I had one guy tell me his 914 was "rust free" as I reached under, grabbed some rust and handed it to him. ohmy.gif laugh.gif he was totally shocked and asked where I got that from. Some owners don't know the cars, so you always have to just go take a look for yourself. wink.gif
