The original rubber bumper tops and rubber bumper guards on my 1974 Can Am are showing their age. There are no cracks/breaks and I want to preserve them as the car still bears its nice original paint. Suggestions and comments are welcomed. Click to view attachment

I dipped in evaporust for a week, dried for a few days, then applied a rubber glue like compound over any bare metal on the back side, and then painted satin black over the dried rubber compound.

You can't really restore rubber. You can put stuff on it to make it look better for a little while but replacement is the only permanent solution.

Someone posted a how to on this subject recently. IIRC, he sanded them slightly. confused24.gif beerchug.gif

Rub down with peanut oil!

You can make them look better for awhile. You can never get the wave out. If you sand it you take the texture off, but yes You can make them look better.
