I have an early 915 trans adapted to use in a 914.
The drive flanges are 110mm OD 911 items. The trans has a ZF ltd slip so the flanges probably have to stay.
Is there a joint that fits this flange and slips onto a 914 or 9146 shaft ?
What are my options ?

Yes, there are CV's that fit. No, neither the /4 nor the /6 axle shaft will work with those without major surgery.

You'll also need the appropriate 911 hubs on the outside. Sway-away makes custom axle shafts, which is probably your best bet if you want to run those CVs.

The thread below may help, but I think the CV's you have are 108mm (not 110mm) and the easiest method might be 71-74.5 hubs and stubs and the sway a way axles.

Except for the 901 to 911 axle adapters (link below), I don't think there are any other adapters.

Just met a member doing Audi 1.8 conversion. I'm sure he mentioned that he was using boxter hubs, fit stock bearings giving 110 mm at the wheel side. Try pming Andrew he is doing same conversion, but he is certain to have a better insight about a possible new approach to this issue.

Both replies and the threads mentioned confirm what I suspected.
I was hoping that someone had found a bus or Vanagon joint that was the perfect solution. Eventually I'll gather the 911 flanges and hubs and have the axles made up.
Luckily I have 914 ZF ltd. slip flanges that slip right in.

I'm running early 911 108 cv's and swayaway 930 axles. Works fine.

Here's likely the most comprehensive thread on the 901 5-bolt using 108mm CV, It's full of info on the differences of the CV's , different 9xx and sway-a-way axles.

But it's aimed at the 914 trans.
If the 915 is the same width and it's using the same 108mm CV I'd think that it still should be the correct set-up.

I'm still hopeful that a combination might be found.
I think I have the four 108mm CVs. the stubs and hubs.
The width of the gearbox (flange to flange) has to be measured and compared to
a 914. Same goes for half shafts.

I have my engine trans out right now so I'll measure the width of the 914-901 flange faces for you. If they turn out to be the same you should be able to use the same sway-a-way axles.

Count the number of splines on the ends of your axles.

Well you guys knew right from the start.
108mm CVs on both ends.
'71 to '74 911 stub axles and wheel flanges or 914 6 wheel flanges.
Trans width flange-to -flange is the same.
So..... Sway a Way ( 930 ? ) shafts complete the set up.
Can somebody confirm length ? Same as 914 ? Same as 930 ?
I turns out I have the parts and didn't know it !
Check out how tight the stub axle is inside a 914 trailing arm.

Here's how I measured the 914-901 transmission, I used two framing squares flat across the faces of the input shafts. I got 10-3/16".
Note the picture might not look square, but it is square, it's just the camera.

For sure if you're within a 1/4" and your axles have the same spline count you can use the sway-a-way 2420 axles.

You have to dissemble, inspect and repack the CV's. You can buy new boots but just the rubber bit, you have to reuse the CV boot flange.
Those CV boot flanges are gold, I don't care how badly bent they are they can be straightened and used.
Do not toss them out!

You can't buy 108mm CV's on their own so these are your options

You can buy new 911 half shafts they come with 2 new CV's and boots, you toss the new 911 axles. They do work but something is different about them, I can't remember exactly what but it's in the high power axle thread.

2nd option is you can buy G50 CV's, they are exactly the same as the 108mm except they don't have the relief cut in them for the CV gasket. You can cut the relief in but the CV material is hard as hell. You could use a gasket sealant, OK for the input shafts, but a challenge to put them on the stubs unless you remove the stubs to install them.
