OK, my wow, that really wasn't that helpful so this information might be of use.
If you have centering hubs on the front wheels, buy only 4 late wheels for future safety. The early wheels will bolt on, probably crooked, but will come loose quickly.
attached are:
1, early front rotor, no centering hub
2, early Pedrini with no provision for centering hub, 914.561.013.00
3, late wheel 914.561.013 01
4, showing the difference in the early and late Pedrini on the face. The rib is shaped differently. Late on the left.

Also make sure you have the seller check the wheels for straight. These wheels are very easy to bend and many are.

Thanx for posting this Brad - it's always a great safety reminder for both old 914ers & newbies.

A few other clarifying points ....

Also, the late wheels will fit the early non-hub-centric (not self-centering) hubs.

The same warning applies for the Mahle 4-spoke & Fuchs 2L 914 factory wheels too, with the p/n ending in ... .00 being the early non-hub-centric, & the ... .01 being the late hub-centric.

Folks may also find that some early wheels were machined with the groove to fit the hub-centric (self-centering) ridge on the late hubs.

The change came in the 73 MY, but there was a "BO" Recall by Porsche back in the day, cuz some of the 914s were fitted with the wrong early wheels, & were a danger.

If your wheels are still on a Aug-Dec 72 built 73 MY 914, & the BO Recall was never done & you still have the early wheels on late hub-centric hubs (or the originals still in storage), then you should still be able to get Porsche AG/PCNA to do the recall & get you some replacement wheels.

Although I don't know how those wheels would survive all that time without damage, nor where Porsche would find some NOS ones! huh.gif
