Went out for a maiden voyage and just made it home when the clutch cable popped out of the bracket at the transmission. I'm missing the hook-shaped clip that holds the cable in place.

Also, I bought a new pin for the reverse lights, which fixed it for a while. Now they stopped working, again. I bench tested the switch and it seems to work, but does need to be pushed in pretty far before it makes contact. Anyone have a known good switch? New one is $100, so I want to make sure it's the switch.

Thanks

A picture of what you're up against regarding the cable would help.

The problem with the reverse switch might be the pin wearing down. Try installing the switch without the washer just to see if it works. If so, try to source or fab a new pin.

Thanks Mark - I did buy the new pin first, which worked in the garage, but has since stopped. Thus I'm thinking it's the switch, except I can get the switch to work on the bench. I actually have two switches which both "work" on the bench, but not installed (with brand new pin).

The two switches I have close when the plunger is completely & fully depressed, so I was wondering whether they should close sooner than full depression.

I found the clutch cable clip (finally) - it looks like a heavy duty picture hook with a big hole in the round end which fits over the cable fitting and is bent around to lock into the hole on the back of the bracket. Also called banjo clip. It's available new for <$10.

Thanks again.
