Just think - if they'd kept the 914 in production, with all the benefits of the decades of upgrades the 911 has had, at the +/- 118,000 cars of the 6.5 year production run August 1969 to Dec. 1975 (76 MY) - then they would've reached 1 MM 914s by about now too - but in a far shorter time, than the 911 series has taken, since starting production in late 1963 for the 1964 MY!
And IMHO, had they kept the 914 around & kept improving it over time, then it too would've increased in sales - rather than stay at the run's average of about 18,150 per year, so it may have reached 1MM already a few years ago!
I think that the Boxster & Cayman's sales numbers since their 1998 production run started, could be a kluge for what a continued 914 could have done in recent decades' sales pace.
