Hi,

Gear selection is typically bad, and fast changes impossible. I am going to replace all the bushes, and have already ordered the Tangerine Racing firewall bush. The Rennspeed shift lever looks like it would help too. Can anyone comment please ? I am mystified as to what this aluminium disc is supposed to do, any ideas ?

Thanks,
Tony.

It looks like a custom retainer for a broken firewall bushing.
If you're lucky, the screw hole will line up with one of the rivet holes for the new firewall bearing. biggrin.gif

I hope so. I ordered a new bushing from you yesterday. Just thought it weird to do something like that. It's not like new bushings are mega expensive are they ?

I mailed it last night. smile.gif
The bushings are cheap enough but if you don't have one on hand, and you do have an assortment of metal bits floating around... idea.gif
On the other hand, a proper replacement should have been installed at the first opportunity.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the quick turn-around of my order. Now I am working on the linkage no doubt I will be getting a few more parts from you. The car is fully road legal in the UK and the engine and gearbox totally rebuilt. New FIA roll cage and new seats. Still more to do !

Cheers,
Tony

Nice! The car looks familiar.
brant
is that Dan's old car?

when you pull that patch off of the firewall, check your clutch tube also.... just to be certain of what the previous owner was using that patch panel for.

^^^ Nice looking car and I agree re. "expecting" to find some clutch tube issues. Mine was McGuyvered at least twice before a more proper repair.

I have an early Rennshifter and have been very pleased. The newer units have a further improved design, IIRC.

Last owner in the USA was John Forbes of Black Forest Racing.
ChrisFoley
Why would John sell a car like that, with a kluged firewall bushing?

To be fair I actually bought it from a collector who bought it from John. However John was less than helpful when I rang him to talk about the car. I am not bleating as of course I didn't have to buy it. I wanted it because it's an unusual car here in the U.K. It has cost me less money than the racehorses I used to own, and they all love it at my local Porsche Owners Club !

I knew I had seen it before. My son snapped this pic when he was visiting colleges in North Carolina.

Look what some kind person sent me the other day when they saw that I owned 244 !

You should also install Foley's rear shift linkage assembly. I had one of the first ones, and it made a huge difference in the tightness of the entire assembly. And it shifted as fast as you could go smoothly and still not destroy the syncros. But, to be honest, autoxing always did seem to have an effect on second gear syscros. smash.gif
