New 914 owner here, just a few questions I have that I'm sure you guys will have the answer to! First off, it's 1973 1.7.
What should be the first things that should be done to the engine to help it out? The brakes are new, so is the clutch.

Also, I tire/wheel question. Right now there are the steel wheels with hubs on it, and they just aren't cutting it. I'm hoping to keep in orginal or at least Porsche wheels. What's the compatible wheel for it and what's the best size tire to go on the rear and fronts?!
Thanks for your time!

Welcome !!!!

for engine, just make sure you do a full tune up if you do not know the history of it....

for the rims and tires, popular 914 rims are the Fuchs, Mahles and Pedrinis....tire sizes range from 195/60/15's to 205/50/15's depending on the use of the vehicle and how you like the ride....most /4 guys run the same size on all 4 corners...

Welcome to the club!
I have a set of 5 Mahle Alloys I'd be glad to sell you.
They would look perfect on your car!
(I also have a set of 4 Pedrinis if you think they would look better.)

Welcome to the club!

Post some pics of your car and look in the Members 914 pictures thread. Lots of pictures of Porsche 4 lug wheels in that thread.

The best first thing you can do is replace all of the vacuum lines on the motor. They are probably old and cracking and will cause problems if so. Cheap and easy. Maybe a tune up as well. For sure you should do an oil/filter change. But if it's running well now, why mess with perfection? Just take it out and drive it.

The best thing you can do to improve your car is to lurk here for a while and follow the chatter. This is a group that has experienced just about everything. As you follow the posts you'll see some common items that everyone deals with. Just make your list and hit them one at a time.

Oh yeah......buy 4 jackstands !!!!
