yes - replace the cam & lifters as a set, pushrods are not an issue,
you want a cam that is designed for carbs - google this for several good links
"camshaft for type 4 with carbs"
and be wary of bolt-on replacement cam gears since they can "come loose" and make a terrible knocking sound - be sure you properly secure the bolts & use loctite

I didn't want to have to split the case but if i must so be it. If i do replace the cam (assuming next size up from standard) do i need to replace lifters & rods?
