I'm looking for some type of software dyno to plug in numbers for my new engine. Any testamonials for Desktop Dyno? For that matter, does anyone have a full version that they'd like to sell and e-mail to me (yeah yeah, I'm impatient and want it now rolleyes.gif )

Thanks

Try Kazaa, they are like napster but you can get anything computer related (programs, muric, movies, etc.). Kazaa.com, it's free. good to have a fast connection if you are getting a program.

be VERY careful with stuff you download off kazaa...

you never know what you're getting!

you are most likely sucking it off the harddrive of a 13 year old, bored to death, idaho resident.

Read a bit about Kazaa and the other file sharing programs here http://news.yahoo.com/techtuesday .

I bought Dyno2000 together with Drag2000 last year and wasn't too happy with
either of them. Drag2000 gave me reasonable enough 1/4 mile figures of
17.266 seconds @ 77.2 mph but at the same time it gave the 0-100 mph time of
17.653 seconds. I emailed Motion Software and they admitted that there was
an error in the software and that it would be corrected in the next version.
I wasn't too impressed with Dyno2000 either. I entered the values for my
stock '73 2.0 as accurately as possible and then fiddled with the parameters
(like the type of intake and exhaust manifolds) and the best result I got
was 91 hp @ 4500 rpm and 121 lb*ft of torque @ 3500 rpm. That torque value
is 15% too high and is not very accurate, IMO. Other results were very
predictable. Increase the compression, the hp goes up. Increase the intake
valve size, the hp goes up, etc. Not worth the money, IMO. I vaguely
remember reading on Jake Raby's site that he uses some kind of professional
dyno software ... that might be more worthwhile. Anyway, if you want, I can
run the numbers for your motor. I'll need to know this:

Heres a virtual engine calculator, might be handy for some... thought some might be interested in this

I found a friend that has a copy. I wouldn't get it off Kazaa.

It's a fun program to play around with and I'm getting used to its quirks. I tried to plug in information for a 2.0L but just couldn't get accurate 'dyno' numbers. On the other hand, my 1.7L replication was much closer (100 ft/lb torque at ~3500rpm, 79hp at 4500-5000rpm).

I think having proper head flow numbers is what makes it considerably more 'accurate' (I mean, it's a cheap computer program so it's not going to be dead-on).. You can't just change the valve sizes.. anytime you make a change to the heads (in the program), new valve sizes and flow numbers should be added simultaneously. Unfortunately, I don't have head flow numbers for many of the heads that I'd like to examine, particularly those of the 1.8L and 2.0L heads.

Anyone have them?
