I have the stock temp gauge in the counsel,its an all original 74 2.0. It stopped working but the needle does move slightly when you click the key.
What are a few possibility's and where is the sending unit located on the case.

Bad sending wire from the sender, bad plug under battery. Sender and gauge rarely fail.

... the sender is in the "Taco Plate" on the engine underside.

Also check & clean your terminals & connectors at the back of the gauge to the console harness, & at that harness to the main harness in the tunnel - clean & add diaelectric grease or oil (Wurth has a good spray oil).
