I'm using a 1977s 2.7 as my engine for my conversion. Can i use the starter motor from my 911 with the 914 /901 trans. I have the correct KEP flywheel. Just wanted to make sure it would work so i don't mess anything up. Second question is if yes on the 911 starter motor will work how are 914 and 911 starter motors different? Thanks

There were two different hp ratings for the Bosch starters, but either should work. I'd recommend using a starter relay as well to get maximum voltage to the starter motor and be sure the ground strap on the transmission is corrosion free.

914 starters are marginal on Type IV stock motors. The 911 works well on both. Or get the Hi Torque starter.

Use the 911 starter it is 1.5 hp, 914/early 911 .8 hp. I recommend replacing the starter cable with a custom made 4 gauge cable and a new ground strap.

Who makes a reliable starter motor for an upgrade ? Any suggestions on best prices ?

I tried using my /4 starter on my /6 but it barely could do it. I swapped it out with a 911 starter and it definitely started much better.

Bosch SR68X is much beefier than the hi torque versions. I'm pretty sure the hi torque contributed to chewing up a new flywheel on my 2.7. The gear drive shaft on the Bosch is nearly twice the diameter. Do a search on the SR68X....I found Amazon to be the best as it didn't charge $90 plus shippingfor the core...
