Test driving my new rebuilt engine and car, I have a small squeak or cherp sound at idle. Would that be a exhaust leak or intake? I'm guessing an exhaust leak. It is running pretty good, still have several bug to work out.

What kind of cherp? Like a whistle or a squeak? Occasional bird-like tweet? Exhaust Leaks usually make a popping type sound. Whistles can be vacuum leaks. Squeaks can be things like the alternator pulley. Can you take some video or a recording of the sound? I'm sure someone here will pinpoint it for ya.

Carbs (what kind) or FI? That'll help too

If you have the OE distributor - did you remember to put a little grease on the cams & arm-ends of both the ignition points & EFI trigger points? confused24.gif

That's what it sounds like to me from your description - & it would happen at all speeds, but be hard to hear at the faster RPMs.

Sounds like sheet metal on metal.
