Must be a VERY EARLY car. The carpet treatment I have seen was in the prototype cars. I did not think it made it to the production line.
Interesting comment. Thankfully that doesn't impact the cars value. Thanks though.

No seam sealer on the rear shock towers, I agree this must be an early vin #.

If the case the car is potentially MORE desirable. Please share more pictures and yes, VIN and engine numbers would be a plus.

The extra carpet areas would not be original.
The rear bumper seems to be painted black, original would be chrome.
The deck lid is one of those GT conversions with all mesh. For someone buying a
nice original car they would want the right deck lid as it has 5 stickers on it.
15" Fuchs (they look like 15 to me) are not original.

I have some info on this car. Following is a small part of an e-mail exchange I had with a previous owner 10+ years ago.
I painted the bumpers rattle-can satin black (easily removed) which did make it look better and
concealed the road debris damage on the front bumper and was easily touched up.
When in Stuttgart about 1972, we visited the Porsche racing parts warehouse in Korntal (near Zuffenhausen) and since the place was run by an ex-schoolteacher from Tacoma (WA), she let us wander through the warehouse. I ended up buying a 914-6 GT engine lid (20 pounds, perhaps) which, wrapped in cardboard, I carried aboard our return flight as cabin baggage. I let it go with the car and I have the original engine lid hanging of my garage wall as art..
Thats a real GT engine cover.

The fuel tank cover is way cool.
that was the first 914-6 in WA state, Roger Ellingston bought it new,
He sold it when he bought a new 944..

I want to point out that my car #41 was the 30th 914 -6 made and you can see the front fender on the picture of it and I do not know what you are saying on “notice the welded seam between the front fender and cowl, very early six”
It looks much different mine and his car is the 455th car and as I said my car is the 30th.

I thought welded seams were only on prototypes.
