Can anyone give me a lead on finding a CDI bracket for an original /6?

Joe,

Those are like hens' teeth, but it would help to post pix of it from the front/back without the CDI box on to actually see it & the PET p/n - for folks who may have one sitting in their stash & not know wtf it is.

I had an NOS one from some other parts I got for my 73 2L resto, but I donated it to Andy T's/SoCalAndy's build a couple of years back. I just looked to see if I have any pix of it, but don't.

Maybe Bruce Stone/bdstone or somebody else on here can step up, or maybe see if Rich Bontempi/HPH has one in his NOS or 400+ 914 used parts stash, or at Parts Heaven, Einmalig in Huntington Beach CA, etc.

PS - I see Andy popped in, so maybe he's got an extra! ;-)

Good Luck! beerchug.gif

I would like to see what they look like maybe I could make a couple.

I think there is a repop, I just cut one up to custom fit my MSD. biggrin.gif

Don't panic... I'm pretty sure it was a repop and someone else had already modified it.

Ben, they're a fairly heavy gauge pressed steel piece.

AA list one nothing flash looking but from a distance would be ok biggrin.gif
I made a simple flat plate to bolt my permatune to,unit facing upside to stop water getting in the connections, however hardly original .
Mark Henry
Is the real /6 battery tray different from the /4?
I ask because my CDI mount, which I believe is the AA repop, fit like stromberg.gif

Repop battery trays are NOT made the same as the original ones.

My battery tray IS original, /4, not what I asked.

The holes on the CDI repop AA mount did not line up.

true, looked like it had been hammered out by a somewhat unskilled person, hence the comment about fit/finish and ok from a distance lol-2.gif .
Mark Henry
If it was hammered then maybe mine is original, as the pressing looked fine.
The PO was the one who said it was a repop. I wouldn't know the difference as I'd never had one in my hands before.

It had already had the center big hole cut out for a MSD hack. I cut it up more and welded it so it fit the MSD better.
I didn't think to check the mount holes to the tray and when I did they didn't line up perfectly.

Post some measurements.

If you don't have anything ........ the piece can be made from flat stock.
The layout can be determined from the CD unit and the pattern on the end of the battery tray.

In the mean time.....

ooops double

This would be a perfect item for Restoration Design to stamp out. They're working on good copies of the factory engine sheet metal for a 914-6 right now.
raynekat
That said, I bought the AA version for my 914-6 conversion.
It was a bit rough on the edges, but a file cleaned most of it up.
After a trip to the powder coater, I'm happy with what I have.
For me, I've got new battery trays going in, so it's a blank slate and I can do anything I want.
I believe Cary (Middle Motors) who is doing all my metal work will have his father in law build a small adapter plate to go between the CDI bracket and the battery tray.
Mark Henry
It wouldn't be hard at all to make a plate, it's another one of those "you can't really see the freakin' thing" parts.
Well you can... just enough that you should have one if you have a real /6.

If you are mounting a MSD to it you have to hack it up, the plate is the wrong shape for the much longer MSD CDI, so in that case why not make one.

Not much left of my /6 CDI mount on my MSD biggrin.gif
