So you all told me that the porsche crest is not factory. I had a few questions about other factory decals/emblems/letters.

The engine compartment letters saying porsche. Factory or dealer add on?

Rear 914 emblem vs 914 1.7 vs 914 2.0 vs 914VWporsche. Which is correct for which year?

Porsche side decal - stock for LE. Factory option?

Thanks experts.

Factory for USA/Canada - 70-72 in Gold, 73-76 in silver. All 914s in the USA/Canada were marketed by Porsche+Audi as a Porsche, & in a few other world markets (Japan?) - elsewhere they were branded as VW-Porsche & had no engine lid letters at all.

Rear 914 emblem vs 914 1.7 vs 914 2.0 vs 914VWporsche. Which is correct for which year?

VW-Porsche was only used in Europe & other ROW world markets where the 1.7L /4 were sold by VW, & all Euro/ROW 914-6s in gold metal 70-72 ... then in 73> they switched to black anodized then late 73 or 74 MY black painted, with the 1.7, 1.8 or 2.0 below the lower right of the VW-P badge, then with the 74 switched to black plastic, & then the 75-76 big bumper 914s went to black decals.

914 only on 1.7s 70-72 or 914-6 for 70-72 in US/Canada in gold anodized metal ... 914 + 1.7 or 2.0 for 73 ... + 1.8 or 2.0 for 74-75 ... + 2.0 only for 76
- with 70 - 73 were metal badges, 74 plastic, & 75-76 with decals, as noted above. Note that the early 73 MY 914s usually had rear side panels as per the 70-72 914/4s with only 2 pin holes for just the 914 badge, so they had to drill the holes on many to mount the engine displacement badges.

The story goes that Porsche initially never considered using anything to differentiate between the two 1.7 & 2.0, so the Porsche+Audi division of VWoA decided to brand them here in the USA/Canada as "914 S" - as did Japan, & the UK did "914 SC."

Porsche side decal - stock for LE. Factory option?
The side stripe PORSCHE script & similar decals were dealer sold factory options for all 1960s & 70's Porsches, whether 911, 912 or 914. Positive side stripes were on 914s 1970 MY on, & the negative ones came out in 74 MY. Except that certain 70's Porsches came with them from the factory, such as the 74 914-2.0 LE, 911 RS, 930 Turbo, etc.

Thanks experts.
