I was looking at your BLOG, and since I'm doing my floor pans too, I was wondering how you were getting the seam sealer up so well?

if anyone else has suggestions, please chime in too... brake cleaner worked for the glue crap, heat works on the tar, but neither is bringing up the seam sealer! confused24.gif I thought about letting the floor pan "soak" (for a day) in a thin layer of laquer thinner... good idea?
Gint
4" grinder with a large wire cup brush (not a thin cheazy wire unit). It will take you longer to go buy a large wire cup brush than it will to remove the seam sealer. Go look at my "rusto" thread. It in there towards the front somewhere, pics and everything.

Whut he sed.

And for areas where the cup brush won't reach, try to the propane torch. Just don't breath the fumes. icon8.gif

What he said. Heat and a very stiff putty knife. Just like the tar on the floor pans.

cool deal! I have the cup already... I think it's a 3 1/2, but it should work good enough...

I also got a "flat" brush with wound wires... for edges... I was going to use them for rust so I'll do this at the same time smile.gif

when doing the front trunk, a heat gun and an old wood chisel made short work of the bulk of it. the wire cup on the grinder cleaned up what was left quickly. i tried the wire cup first. just using the cup made a mess what with slinging the sealer around. don't forget a faceshield or gogles.

sub title is seam seal in the thread. wink.gif in my car the ss was hard as a rock. i think the whole perimeter was down to residue in about 15 minutes. personally, i'd be leery of the open flame method. the fume issue could be deadly. prob no more so than the cigs i smoke wacko.gif . just faster.

ok, I wasn't planning on doing the front and rear trunks until it gets closer to time to paint... they are solid, not rust found...

yea, the fumes were killing me yesterday... my little ass garage doesn't have great ventilation... I had 2 fans going, but the wind from outside was blowing the fumes back in... icon8.gif

good times! smoke.gif

Make sure it's twisted wire. The grinder brings that sealer up really well but I was coated in it afterwards. I am also going to go at the corners with a 5" flat wire (twisted) attachment next, I didn't have as much luck with the Cup on those. After the sealer is up, I'll go to town with the brake cleanner.

I hope this helps.....

PS. Hey, someone looked at my blog! boldblue.gif I'm famous! clap.gif

wire cup on a grinder as the others said, works good! It does throw sealer boogers everywhere, but that is easy to clean up
