How do you clean spark plugs. I am changing plug and wanted to clean the old one and use a emergency backup.

Carefully & not with a wire brush.

Even though wire brushing is the commonist technique it causes scratches & leaves fragments of metal in & around the plugs electrode. These scrathces & fragments interfere with electrical flow.

If you must clean old plugs, use very fine files to create a sharp angled flat top to the electorde, Do the same to the arm & regap. This gives a nice edge for the spark to jump across. Remove the oil / carbon build up with a solvent which will evaporate off.

IMO the plugs are cheap so replace with new. Or carry some new spares.

IMO just get a few extras... but if you really want to use the old one for a spare, spray some carb cleaner on it, and wipe it off with a rag, nothing else...

agree.gif Is it really worth $2 not to have a new one?
