Hi,

Time to end my lurker status, now that I have something to ask :-)

I have a 74 1.8 Z-green, (recently acquired) and I'm renewong the rear brakes this weekend (pads and rotors). Now that I have everything apart I find I need those cross-shaped clips that push against the backs of the brake pads.

Can anyone suggest how I might find these locally? Are these ATE calipers the same as for a lot of cars of this vintage? Could I try to find VW parts, for example? Anyone know what else would fit? Or suggest a likely source? Do I need to buy caliper rebuild kits to get these?

Thanks!

Is it one of these? If so, you can find it in the 914 catalog at
Mittelmotor .

Call Pelican Parts.

You are looking for a "Pad Retainer" kit. This will include the cross like piece in the pic above, the two pad bars, and two bar pins (not sure what all this stuff is really called).

Not listed on their site, but I know they have them!

Pelican has something called a Rear Caliper Expanding Spring listed in their catalog . Is that it?
Qarl
Nah.. I think that has to do with the rear emergency brake... the spring that returns the caliper to the not locked position.

Like Karl said you are looking for a "pad retainer kit" or it may be just called "brake hardware kit". It will come w/ the clip, pins & retainers. Caliper rebuild kit comes w/ rubber o-rings & dust boots.

Thanks for all the replys, folks.

Yep ,that's it, I need pad retainer kits.

That tin piece in the picture posted by Jeff is now two pieces on mine.

I'll call PP on Monday - too bad they're about as far away from me as you can get without a passport. It'll probably talk two weeks to get 'em. sad.gif

BTW, that picture in the avatar is my car, so I've posted one pic so far.
