Okay, so today, I was working on getting the shifter and new linkage adjusted.
Since I wasn't converting to any other trans (cable-shift, etc), I decided to change out the tail-shift for a side-shift. To do this, I went with the Tangerine Racing complete shift linkage kit, the firewall bushing, and the precision adjuster and threw in the JWest Renn-shifter for the heck of it (and to get the short-shift feature).
When I shift the trans console by hand, I can find the reverse - 1st plane here:

and I can find what I think is the 2nd-3rd plane about 7mm down:

And then at about 13-14mm (the measurement I get with the level pulled all the way out),

I would think would be the 4th - 5th plane but I can't shift the trans into 4th or 5th as I would expect. I have tried to split the difference between the R-1 plane and the 2-3 plane thinking that the 2-3 plane might actually be the 4-5 plane but that didn't work.
This is an unfamiliar trans that I pulled out of a parts car I purchased (haven't had the time to go through it and it was recommended that I put it in and run it anyway to see what it needed).
Am I missing something? I don't remember pulling the console out of it (as if I had not gotten it back in right and somehow had a shift rod out of alignment).
Any thoughts? I've been trying to make sure that I have the trans in neutral (in between 2-3) and then adjust the shift rod in the console to the left to get it all lined up but when I do I can't find 4-5 with the shifter so I thought I'd try to find it at the console first.....but no luck yet.
I have read a number of the "how to adjust your shifter" threads.
