Need just a slight mod to make it fit perfect...

Planned for a flat panel display but this should work after I sort out the wiring...

Thats either from a Accord or Intergra. OK maybe a Jetta , keep it in the family. Could be a 944 or even 928. OK I've covered most of them, am I right????

I will preserve most of the fact wiring, I have the stock ECU. The major hurdle will be disabling or fooling any requisite sensors...

That's sweet Brent, but the Audi panel will work for now. Jason has the Boxster cluster but I don't think it looked like that.

I have to be careful about chosing elements that fit the design theme of Neo914. Not too "stylish" since the 914 is more of a functional design.

I agree, its a bit much......its kinda "the bling" factor, seeing all those nice bright needles on white!

986 or 996 would be cool, there was a (or still is) an ebay ad for a guage pod cap or mini-dash out of a 996 on ebay.

Doesn't that only gain you 1 more guage?

True, but I want the modern dash, back lighting, some of the stock idiot lights/sensors. Did you notice the 160 MPH max?

I still may do the multi-functional flat panel, time and budget permitting.

What year is the Audi ? What you have in your hands
is basically a computor. You not only have to worry about sensors...you need to worry about the comunication errors, the second you power it up. Its very hard to reverse Audi Dash coding (depending on the year).

It can/has been done, but is it worth the trouble? Maybe check out the "HotRod" sites, back in the day they were pioneers, in the new digital displays. Cheep kits that would be plug and play for a 914.

It's from a 2000 S4. I priced other displays with lots of features and engine management computers and it would have evolved into quite a project and costs. I live near Sonu who's converted an Audi 1.8 turbo in his 914 using the stock instrument panel and ECU. He was able to make it work w/o too much problems. Once I'm ready to wire it, I'll contact you with any problems. Believe me, I'm counting on help. I have another friend who is German automotive tech with diag equip and I also live near Jason who is converting to Boxster drivetrain. He bought the stock instrument panel and will have similar challenges.

Felix, Wasn't too difficult for me.

Do you have the internal harness for the S4? If not, I have a spare body haness out of a Audi A4 sitting in my shed that we can probobly use to mate to your setup. Since the internal harness only provides power to the ECU and accesories, we can make it work and will make the job easier.

The ECU and engine can run with just the engine harness...you just need to provide power to the ECU (very easy once you look at the wiring diagram, it is only one wire and the wiring diagrams show you what type of fuse to use). ECU has wires coming out of it that give signal to the Dash...speedo, water temp, and RPM are the main ones you need. It's gets even easier (you won't need the internal harness) if you don't want to use the audi relays to contrl water temp (radiator fans) and fuel pump. You can run power to the lighting on the cluster wired into your 914 headlights/interior lights switch. However, since I had the internal harness, I just trimmed it and kept the functionality I wanted.

Not sure if the S4 had the "immobalizer" feature...but people have posted workarounds for this over on vwvortex. Let me know when you get to the wiring stage...i'll help out the best that I can.

I'm still getting my V8 together I trial fit the V6 engine and tranny. I get my flared 914 mid June so I can trial fit the drivetrain to design the mounting. It will likely be couple of months before ready to wire. We still need to meet for lunch, how's next week look?

Mike (Dr Evil) couldn't make the 914 dash work so I went ahead and bought an S4 dash. Surprisingly the length is close but the steering wheel is offset ~2.5" closer to the left side. I plan to cut and modify the complete dash assembly to retain the vents or just use the instrument pod cover and mount it on the 914 dash.

Why not move the steering wheel? It isn't centered on the seat anyways, and 2.5" may just do it. You'd just have to cut off the mount, reweld it where you want it, and lengthen the rod between the U joints to make it work. Or at least it seems like it'd be that easy.

Had not considered that, good idea...

I doubt I'll use the metal frame anyway. Still waiting for the climate control unit as soon as the seller removes it from his wreck...
