Wolfgang (Gustl) sent me the information on this ad and I grabbed it. What a friend you are Wolfgang!

Its from the Denver Post, a newspaper (issue date unknown), and is the only known 914LE ad found to date. Note that it was sponsored by local dealerships and not Porsche-Audi like many of the other 914 ads.

Love it!!!

Is that like listening to Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds backwards?

I would suspect its a spring 1974 ad if anyone has time to chase it in their archives.
SirAndy
There weren't that many Riots in 1974 but i can't find one that claimed 10 lives. There were some fatalities in Boston during the school desegregation riots there, maybe that's the one?

I remember it well.

Cool ad though, I remember seeing them at Rusnak in Pasadena and Trans Ocean.

I'll bet the LA Times ran and add for them as well.

What are the "racing-type stabilizers"?

What are the "racing-type stabilizers"?

Sway bars.

I don't think Pedrinis are "magnesium" either.
Dave_Darling
Pedrinis are not. But the wheels on the LEs are Mahles. I don't think they're magnesium either, though.

Oops! Right you are, Dave. Mahle gasburners for five lug are mag, but the four lug are not.

And only 264 are known to survive, many of those in disrepair.

Blue what? LE?

Thanks for sharing the LE information Jeff. The 264 number that you mentioned to survive is that out of the 1000 number of all LEs. If so would the same percentage appy to all 914s? Here is a picture of a LE sway bar that was recently restored by Bruce.

JeffBowlsby
Hi Roger, To the best of our knowledge, yes, its 264 survivors out of 1000 supposedly built. Problems with that are that we don't have 100% proof that 1000 LEs were actually made. I have one Porsche document that indicates 800 were made.

That extrapolation is possible, just no way to verify it for sure, which is one reason to maintain the Registry as the only real record of known survivors. Even it is not 100% accurate, its is accurate to the best of our knowledge and information available to us.

I feel a garage poster coming soon. Really cool ad for sure! first.gif

I am guessing the ad came out on about Monday, May 6, 1974....may have been a day or two later, given time for news to make print
How did I come to that conclusion?

That's the date Bridget Rose Dugdale was charged in an Irish court with stealing the only Vermeer in private hands.

Beautiful job on the stabilizer, what's the plating?
