Since West Germany hasn't been a country since 1990, I know this is at least 27 years old...but is there a way to tell if it's original? Not that it matters. Just curious.

I can’t imagine a clutch cable lasting that long. I have replaced at least eight over the years and I am the original owner. I have gotten good at it!
Your cable might have been from someone’s stash.

I agree. But this car is a bit of a mystery. The odo shows 31K and there's a lot of originality. Its had engine work done and new paint, so I don't believe it's a 31K car, but I'd bet it's not a 131K car either. I do know that the tires looked new but were 17 years old when I got the car in March. And the seller (flipper) told me he just bought the car from a guy who had a few 914s in long term storage. I found the name of the original owner on an insurance card hidden in the visor, so I guess I'll try to reach him and learn more.....
