Does any one have a list (started or complete) of parts on the 914 that are found on VW’s? I know that there are tons of parts, but I was curious if any one has put on together.

its not "tons" of parts
Most of the type 4 engine pieces are VW
later wiper switches are late Bug switches
later window winder handles are off a Rabbit
wheel bearings are a type 3
early front calipers are 411
intermittant wiper relay is off a bug

etc

not as many parts as you think, actually... I tried putting together a list before, and was disgruntled at how many "914 specific" parts there were... off the top of my head... the engine parts are almost all VW, the interior light is 100% VW too, now, there ARE similar(read: usable) vw parts.. switches, ignition parts, etc... and in general, guages and other aftermarket vw accessories can most of the time be used or made to work... but the more expensive parts(brakes, suspension, steering) are usually 914 specific or are shared(or can be swapped) with a 911 part...

me, if I can make a VW part work, I'll do it usually... just to offset the inevitable price-gouging on rare, expensive and hard to reproduce parts... now, if it has to do with safety though, I don't mind spending $$

Isn't the djet fuel pump the same as a type 3?

the 1.7/1.8 FI parts have a lot in common with the t3, and the bus FI, IIRC... but I don't know the exact parts that are interchangeable...

btw, the tunacan site has a lot about the engines of the different years...

Yes, the 75-76 Djet fuel pump is the same as the bus one.

i made a data base in clarisworks on an apple LC (yes, it's that long ago), of part numbers, nomenclature, figure reference, price and vendor. basically, the biggest clue is the part number: 022.xxx.xxx is 1.7, 021.xxx.xxx is 1.8, 039.xxx.xxx is 2.0L. 901.xxx.xx is shared with 911. 914.xxx.xx is pretty specific to 914. restate and emphasize the word: "basically"

some bosch/electrical parts have 2 numbers:

0.280.100.043 also has a 039.xxx.xxx number

(this is for example only)

data base has about 1700 entries in it (duplicates, same part from multiple vendors, nuts & bolts & washers, hoses...)

searching for a conversion to appleworks to be able to convert to PC format. i have DB on 3.5" floppy

Jim, you are quite correct on the part #'s. There are quite a few VW parts in the car. The body and trim are pretty much unique as are the rear brakes and the suspension.

Engine parts, front brakes, window crank, striker plate for doors, a few bulbs are the same.
